Subiaco Die Hard George Young says he’s honoured to be inducted into the WAFL’s Hall of Fame and will have his family by his side at next week’s induction ceremony..
“The footy commission contacted me a couple of weeks ago and I’m obviously very excited and very, very honoured to join a very illustrious group.” He said.
Young’s football resume stands up with the best of them, named on a half forward flank in Subiaco’s Team of the Century.
In a career that spanned a decade Young played 195 games (Subiaco 77, St Kilda 108, WA 10) and kicked 365 goals (Subiaco 72, St Kilda 284, WA 9).
The brilliant forward was named All Australian in 1972 and was St Kilda’s leading goal kicker in 1975, 1976, 1977 and 1978.
“I finished playing footy forty years ago… This stands up there with one of the best individual honours that I could have achieved.” He said.
Young now works as a wine distributer and says he rarely misses a Subiaco game.
