A dominant second half has seen Subiaco record a 13-point victory over Swan Districts at Steel Blue Oval.

The Lions were down by 18-points early in the third quarter but nine goals to four after half time made sure that they were able to run out the match 12.13 (85) to 10.12 (72).

In his 100th game for the club Rob Forrest was instrumental with 24 possessions and was assisted by Raymond Daniels (25), Jason Bristow (24), Jarrod Kayler-Thompson (22), Brett Mahoney (22) and George Hampson (20).

The first quarter was not one for football purists with many turnovers, dropped marks and skill errors occurring for both teams.  The first goal of the match was not kicked until the 19th minute when Subiaco’s Scott Ward kicked the ball mid air from the goal square.  This was the only goal kicked for the quarter.

The Lions got the first goal of the second quarter but from there it was all Swan Districts as they kicked six out of the next seven goals.  Dayle Garlett was lively in the forward line kicking three goals for the term.

Whatever Subiaco coach Jarrad Schofield said at half time must have hit home as the Lions came out roaring in the third quarter.  Schofield moved Clancy Wheeler into the ruck and pushed Andrew McDougall and David Madut down forward.  This had an immediate effect as Subiaco kicked five goals for the quarter while the Swans could only manage six points.  When Chris DeLuca and McDougall goaled late in the quarter, what was a 17-point deficit at half time had turned into an 11-point lead at the last break.

The Lions kicked the first goal of the last quarter through Michael Wood and the lead was out to a game high 19-points.  However Swans weren’t done with yet and goals to Blaine Boekhorst and Garlett had them back to within seven points.

Each side then kicked two goals as time ticked on but when former Swans player Raymond Daniels kicked a goal, Subiaco were home.

After the match milestone man Forrest said “I was lucky enough to play one game let alone 100 and to reach this milestone means the world.  I’m just glad I got there and I’m very proud.”

First Quarter
The first quarter had numerous turnovers, dropped marks, skill errors and poor decisions from both sides.  Only one goal was kicked and that went to Scott Ward for the Lions.  Graham Jetta and Shaun Hildebrandt each had nine disposals for the quarter while for Subiaco Hampson had seven and Kayler-Thomson had five.
Second Quarter
Swan Districts came alive this quarter and started to play some of the slick football that they are capable of.  Garlett showed why he is such a talent with three brilliant goals during the quarter for Swans.  The inside 50 count was in Swan Districts favour 30-22 and that helped them establish a 17-point lead at half time.
Third Quarter
It was a different Lions team that came out after half time as they managed to kick five goals.  This was more than they had kicked in the entire first half.  McDougall provided a strong target in the forward line, kicking two goals and taking numerous marks.  The major disposal winners for Subiaco were Forrest who had 20 and Daniels who had 19 while for Swans, Kyle Hams had 23 possessions and Brett Robinson had 21.  The inside 50 count was still in Swan Districts favour 39-38 but the Lions made the most of their opportunities, leading by 11-points going into the last quarter.
Fourth Quarter
Swans closed the margin to seven points half way through the last term but Subiaco kicked three of the next five goals to seal a 13-point win.
It may have taken Rob Forrest nine seasons to play 100 games for the Subiaco Football Club but he finally got there today.  Rob finished with 24 possessions, six marks and three inside 50’s.
