The equation is simple; win by more points than East Fremantle do and the Subiaco Colts will play finals football.
Holding fourth spot on a narrow 0.94 percent; the Lions will be wary of their southern rivals as they vie for a finals breakthrough in 2013.
East Perth emerge as the hurdle for the finals-hungry Lions with head coach Steve Armstrong maintaining an emphasis on keeping his side fresh for the climactic finale.
“We’ll try to keep them nice and fresh and focused. We’ve got some sore bodies in the camp so we’ll tread lightly and try get everyone into the East Perth game at 100%.” Said Armstrong
Armstrong is also be buoyed by the returns of key forward Michael Wood and mercurial midfielder Antoine Garlett; who are set to make their Colts comebacks after senior duties and injuries.
“It will be really good to get Michael Wood back and we’ll hopefully be able to re-establish the chemistry he had earlier in the season. He was a big reason to why were in the position to make finals so hopefully he’ll be here to finish it.”
“Garlett is another important inclusion because before his hamstring injury he developed into an X-factor for us. He would only touch the ball about 10-15 times a game, but every time he did something would come from it. We’ll probably play him in the forward line to ease him back into it.”
The Lions suffered two key injuries in the demolition of Peel; but fortunately both have been scaled to minor setbacks.
Rhys McAlister (knee) and Andrew Vawser (hamstring) could play if the Lions make a trip into September; but Armstrong stated they wouldn’t risk the longevity of the players for short-term gain.
“With the development of these young players it’s too much to ask and risk anything long-term. Both boys suffered minor injuries we expect them to recover from; but we wouldn’t want to push them in a position where they could extend their injuries.”
The Lions will kick off against th Royals on the 31st of August at 9:05am. Add the Subiaco Football Club on Facebook for updates and a live ladder.
