Colts Preview: RD 2 East Fremantle
- Thursday, 27 March 2014
The Subiaco Colts will be hoping to put four quarters together against East Fremantle this weekend after a disappointing 41-point loss to South Fremantle in Round One.
Despite an excellent first half which saw the Lions 10-points ahead of a star studded Bulldogs side; the young Colts couldn’t keep up the intensity to fall behind.
A momentum-changing goal by Souths’ Jarrod Pickett straight after half-time changed the dimensions of the game; a moment the Lions never recovered from.
This week the Colts will be up against an East Fremantle side who easily accounted for the West Perth Falcons by 21 points in Round One.
A massive boost has been provided for the Lions with the return of silky midfielder Max Walters who polled third in the Taylor medal last year despite missing half the season.
The Lions will also be debuting a 201cm ruck-man Ashton Williamson and returning athletic utility Abe Kennedy.
THE GAME CHANGERS:
Subiaco had their fair share of the offensive ball against South Fremantle but couldn’t capitilise on their tall forwards. With players like Ryan Vermeersch and Cody Grace providing options in the forward arc; the Lions will hopefully find more accuracy when targeting key forwards this week.
The ruck contest was fairly even against South Fremantle but the Lions were completely undone in the centre clearances and disposal count. To get the upper hand on East Fremantle, Subiaco will have to work on getting first hands on the football at the clearances.
Coach Steve Armstrong will most likely shuffle the key position players for the Lions this week to combat East Fremantle’s aerial strength. East Fremantle sides of the past have been renowned for their strength in the contest so the Lions will look to utilize their speed.
