Good Friday Football a Godsend
- Thursday, 10 April 2014
While players and coaches are firmly focused on this weekend’s fixture the club would like to urge fans and members to mark April 18th in their diaries.
The Subiaco Football Club will once again host Good Friday Football at Medibank Stadium. The Lions pioneered the fixture back in 2011 and it’s fast becoming a WAFL tradition. This year is going to be a Family Fun Day in support of Telethon with part of days proceeds supporting Telethon.
Make sure the kids stop by the Kids Zone which will be full of fun activities including inflatables, footy activities and Jungle Sports will be on hand running sporting games plus lots of giveaways. Leo the Lion will be out and about taking selfies and handing out easter eggs to kids.
The Subiaco Bar has acquired an "Occasional Liquor License" and will be open prior to the League bounce down for the benefit of members and their guests.
This year’s game is made even more special with the awarding of the Andrew Christie medal normally awarded to the most courageous player during Subiaco’s Anzac Day game. In 2014 Subiaco has a bye on the Anzac weekend.
Four years ago public opinion was very much divided on whether scheduling a football match on the Easter holiday was in good taste but football fans voted with their feet and almost 5000 spectators made their way through the gates – the Lions highest attended home and away fixture for the 2011 season.
This year the Lions will again take on co-tenants and arch rivals East Perth in what has become one of its flagship fixtures. Colts bouncedown at 10:55am, Reserves bouncedown at 1:25pm and League starting at 4:05pm.
Game Day Notes:
Bar Facilities will be open after midday
Kids Zone open from 3:00pm including kids activities and FREE giveaways throughout the day
Meet and snap a selfie of Leo the Lion who will be handing out easter eggs
Stop by Topolinis To-Go for some food which will be open in the Subiaco Alfresco Area
League post match presentations will commence following the final siren so make sure to stick around for the Andrew Christie medal.
