Lions Hold Top Spot

Subiaco were competitive for three quarters against Swan Districts before being overun in the final term suffering the first loss for season 2014.

Trailing by just 3 points at the final break, Swan Districts piled on eight goals to two after three quarter time.

The Lions early season dominance means they maintain top position on the WAFL ladder ahead of Swans by a healthy percentage.

Jason Bristow (26 possessions) and Chris Phelan (24 possessions) continued their streak of good form while Kyal Horsely gathered 22 possessions and laid a game high 6 tackles.

First Quarter

Charlie Le Fanu found him self on the end of a heavy knock and had to be helped from the field with in minutes of the opening bounce before returning shortly after

Neither side troubled the scorer for the first ten minutes of the game.

Swans broke the deadlock through Matthew Jukes who bagged two goals in quick succession

Chris Deluca created Subiaco’s first goal with an impressive gather at full speed at the feet of Matt Boland.

His centering snap found Kyal Horsley on his own in the goal square and the skipper converted from point blank range.

Jukes was lively early and snapped his third for the quarter to give Swans an 11 point quarter time margin

Second Quarter

Wingman Lachlan Delahunty received a warm reception from the Swan Districts contingent when he tangled with Adam Faulker.

Rhys Waters kicked Subiaco’s first for the quarter after being awarded a free kick for a high tackle.

Reece Blechynden celebrated his first senior appearance for two seasons with a long-range torpedo goal from 55 metres out.

Subiaco were left a man down when Rhett Kerr came off second best  after a huge collision with Brandon Jetta, the half forward played no further part in the game.

Frank Stockley brought the house down and gave Subiaco the lead when he gathered a lose ball, bounced off an opponent and converted for his first.

Third Quarter

Shane Yarran lit up in the third term booting two quick goals to give the Lions the lead.

Brandon Jetta then pounced on a loose ball inside Swan’s fifty to level the scores.

Tim Geappen’s second goal gave Swan’s a one point lead.

After kicking four straight points Matt Boland got reward for effort when he convert his first goal.

Chris Deluca drew the Lions to with in three points with the final kick of the quarter.

Fourth Quarter

What ever Greg Harding said to his charges at the final break appeared to work.

The first 15 minutes of the quarter was played in Subiaco’s defensive half as the Swans peppered the goals and converted three majors to extend to the lead out to 23 points.

The visitors started to connectiwith their forwards making life difficult for Subiaco's backs.

Matt Rogers capped off a 26 disposal game with three last quarter goals icing the game for the visitors

The Lions managed two final quarter goals as Swans piled on 8.

Jukes finished the game with 6 goals to his name.

GAME CHANGERS

Milestone Men

Tallan Ames and Ryan Davis were in typical good form again.

Ames steadied the ship deep in defence for the Swans while Davis was lively up forward and finished with 20 disposals and 2 goals 2.

Frank the Tank

Frank Stockley continues to impress his new team mates.

This season's Andrew Christie Medalist easily won the hit outs (36 to Swan's total of 26), kicked a goal but importantly laid 5 tackles, a rare feat for a man of his size.

 

Hampson Out

George Hampson was a late withdrawal after straining a hamstring at training during the week.

Last year’s joint Outridge medalist had been in red hot form and was sorely missed.
