Lockyer settles in Lions den

Defender Jordan Lockyer has settled into football at Subiaco and it's showing on the field.

The ex-Sydney Swan has been one of Subiaco's most consistent players in the early stages of the 2015 WAFL season and he's enjoyed the fresh start.

"Coming back to Western Australia and playing footy for Subiaco has been really good for me. The fresh start has been great and i'm enjoying it here." said Lockyer

Lockyer has become a vital part of Subiaco's back-line and was a stand-out against West Perth on the weekend. So much so he was awarded the Andrew Christie medal for player that best demonstrates the ANZAC spirit.

"I was pretty surprised to be awarded the Christie medal to be honest. I just stuck to my role and worked hard with the boys to get the win so to recieve that sort of recognition is humbling." said Lockyer

The Lions are 3-1 and sit second on the WAFL ladder in the early runnings but despite being one of the league's stingiest defences; Lockyer looks forward to getting better.

"We've been ok so far, probably a bit more up and down than we would have liked. We've been able to string quarters together but the goal is to execute and establish conistent effort over the entire game. We have been unlucky with some of the injuries and personell changes but the guys coming in are doing really well. We all know what's expected of us and we're working towards that."

Subiaco look towards Ben Saunders and the South Fremantle Bulldogs this week and Lockyer believes the defensive mindset for the Lions wont change.

"It's going to be a pretty similar game-plan to the last four weeks and that's emphasising that everyone plays a part. When everyones doing their role and working together as a team we do well." said Lockyer

A bit of help from five time premiership full-back Darren Rumble doesn't hurt either.

"It is great to have Rumba holding it down back there. You always know he's got your back and he's still looking really good in his 13th season." added Lockyer
