Ladies Day: Tanya Ferguson
- Friday, 05 June 2015
Head trainer Tanya Ferguson plays a big role in the war room for Subiaco but her career didn't start with the maroon and gold.
Tanya plied her trade for East Perth in the early 2000's but has become a Subi stalwart since opting for the Lions den.
"I originally started at East Perth in 2005 and I was always in contact with Subi’s trainer Alby Hawkins because we shared the same ground,
"When my job at East Perth became un-available I called Alby and told him I had more in the tank and by the following year I was employed as Subiaco's colts head trainer." said Ferguson
In 2008 Tanya Ferguson paved her way to the club's head trainer and she now operates one of the best medical teams in the WAFL.
"In my honest opinion I think we have the best medical team in the WAFL. All my staff are 100% dedicated and work hard for each other,
"They also have a high appreciation of the club and what were about. It's been great to see them all mature and grow as professionals whilst delivering for the football club." said Ferguson

It wasn't always easy for female trainers however with Ferguson acknowledging a dramatic shift in the gender balance over the last decade.
"When I started in the industry around 1998 it was a very male orientated environment and was largely seen as a male dominated profession. I think there was a big shift in the early 2000's where girls were getting involved and offering their practical studies at football clubs,
"Back in the day a lot of the clubs wouldn't even hire female trainers so to see that bias shift completely is incredible.
"The players and club have a great respect for the ladies amongst the training staff and we make sure to give the respect back." added Ferguson
When Tanya was asked to acknowledge the female figures who've stood out for her at the club she didn't hesitate to credit her under-studies.
"Sarah Harris has definately stepped up in the last couple of years and is doing really well as the colts head trainer. She's progressed so well and continues to do great work.
Another one of my girls Brittany Miltrup has been with me for eight years and is our go-to person for a lot of things. The way she stepped up in the 2014 Grand Final under immense pressure was amazing to see so credit goes to her.
