SFC 2015: Round 13 Preview
Friday, 19 June 2015
Subi have equalled the historic start made in 2007 by winning nine of their first games; but will face a gritty Claremont side at the Showgrounds this weekend.
The Lions comprehensibly took care of the Tigers in Round One but the ever-changing dynamics of the WAFL make this an intriguing fixture.
Claremont have won their last five games and will be looking for a big scalp.
Subiaco could be buoyed by the return of skipper Kyal Horsley who hit the field for the reserves last weekend. Horse gathered 28 disposals in the engine room and has over-come the leg injury that’s had him missing since Round Three.
Horsley will re-join Subi’s midfield at an important time with prolific ball-winner Brett Robinson in doubt with a foot injury.
The Tigers midfield has been in form and will be raring to defend their home turf. Thomas Ledger is having a breakout year for Claremont averaging 26 disposals a game.
They also possess a group of experienced ex-AFL players with Kepler Bradley, Beau Maister and Mark Seaby contributing to the Tigers recent form.
Subiaco are the highest scoring unit in the WAFL this year despite a consistency slump in recent weeks. Subi’s strength lies within a variety of goal-scorers, which was evident in last week’s 22-point win over South Fremantle where youngster Kyle Halligan stepped up to kick three. Leading goal-kicker Shane Yarran is receiving extra attention from defenders after his lightning start but the rest of the Lions forwards are benefiting from it.
Subi got burnt by Claremont forward Shane McAdam a couple of times in Round One but will be better prepared to handle the pacey forward this weekend. McAdam has been outstanding for the Tigers in his first year of league football and torched the Demons last week with five goals.
In form defender Aaron Heal could be handed the shutdown role as he continues to perform in 2015.
Claremont are hosting Family Fun Day alongside the Prostate Cancer Foundation of Australia on Saturday and will be providing a variety of activities and promotions for the whole family. The initiative coincides with the official WAFL Men’s Health Week.
