Around The Club: July 2015

Austin Robertson Jr was inducted into the AFL Hall of Fame in June and it provided the perfect opportunity for a couple of premiership heroes to catch up.

Subi alumni Ross Smith and Mike Fitzpatrick were in attendance to witness Robertson Jr join the upper echelon of football as Subiaco continues to represent strongly in every facet of football.

Robertson Jr was somewhat belatedly inducted into the Hall of Fame after kicking 1271 goals from 269 games for Subiaco and South Melbourne over a 12-year career and leaves his legacy as one of the best goal-kickers to play the game.
Robertson broke Ted Tyson’s record for most goals in 1973 as well as spearheading Subi to a break-through premiership.

Mike Fitzpatrick also played in Subiaco’s monumental 1973 premiership to quash a 49-year drought. Fitzpatrick went on to play 150 games for Carlton and represented Western Australia eleven times.  The Subi legend currently serves the AFL Chairman and has been an AFL commissioner since 2003.

Ross Smith was best on ground in the 1973 triumph over West Perth and played 39 games for Subiaco between stints at St Kilda. Smith was a gutsy rover who won a Brownlow medal in 1967 during his hay days at the Saints. Smith was also inducted into the St Kilda Hall of Fame in 2003.
