Lions Buzz: Round 19
Monday, 03 August 2015
Subi firmed themselves for first position with a crucial 44 point win over South Fremantle on the weekend.
The Bulldogs came out hard in veteran Ashton Hams 150th game but Subiaco had poise in the second half to win all three games against South Freo in 2015.
South Fremantle looked the hungrier side in the early goings and held the lead at quarter and half time. The Lions found their groove half way through the third quarter and kicked 12 goals to three in the second half.
Sam Menegola continues to dazzle with his form in recent weeks and was named best on again with 35 touches and three goals. Menegola has found a role he feels comfortable in and is thriving in it. The ex-Docker can work as a big inside midfielder but has also shown he can dominate on the wing and in the forward line as well.
Another ex-Docker also continues to grow in stature with Michael Wood leading the Lions forward line to victory on the weekend. Wood appears to have re-gained the confidence that saw him selected in the 2013 AFL draft and is gathering momentum at the right time of the season. Wood kicked five goals straight and had six marks.
The Lions 13th win of the season leaves them poised to win the minor premiership after West Perth fell to East Perth on Sunday. Subi are four games clear with five games to play. Barring the miraculous; the minor premiership should be heading to Medibank Stadium in 2015.
Subiaco's District hosted a successful Family Fun Day to welcome our community clubs to enjoy the football. Over 2000 enjoyed Saturday's game-day with the Karrinyup Saints JFC promoted as District Club of the week.
Subiaco young gun Greg Clark was invited to the AFL National Combine where he will test himself against Australia's best talent. West Australian journalist Nick Rynne detailed the possibility of Clark going in the 2015 AFL Draft.
West Coast spearhead Josh Kennedy visited Medibank Stadium to battle Subi colts Ryan Borchet in the Slurpee Australia shootout. Full video shared on our Facebook.
Nick Rynne| As an aside, surely Menegola gets another shot at AFL this year. He has 22 touches already. All class.
John Townsend | If club going to bag u at lunch, at least they should invite you to hear it first hand. always do
