Wednesday, 16 March 2016
Subiaco’s leadership group has been decided for 2016 with Kyal Horsley set to lead the Lions for a third season.
Lachlan Delahunty and Leigh Kitchin will step up into vice-captain roles whilst Simon Moore, Adam Cockie and Jordan Lockyer were elevated into the leadership group.
Veterans Wayde Twomey and Chris Phelan also remain amongst the leaders to round out a balanced group of Subiaco footballers.
SFC LEADERS 2016
1. HORSLEY (C)
17. DELAHUNTY (VC)
5. KITCHIN (VC)
Horsley filled the captaincy in 2013 following the retirement of club champion Aidan Parker. The Kalgoorlie product has led the Lions to two WAFL flags since and will look to be the second skipper in Lions history to win three premierships consecutively.
Leigh Kitchin had an outstanding debut season for Subiaco
ex-Frankston pair Delahunty and Kitchin will be vice-captains this season following the retirement of Darren Rumble.
Delahunty has starred for the Lions over the last two years and has been a part of the back-to-back premiership teams. Kitchin joined the club last year and has become a vital member of the Subiaco fold quickly.
The addition of youngsters Simon Moore and Jordan Lockyer to the leadership group speaks volumes for their presence around the club. Moore and Lockyer were both fantastic contributors to the 2015 premiership push.
Adam Cockie was a valuable off-season recruit for Subiaco which is emphasised with his selection in the leadership group.
Cockie played during the glory years for Subiaco before moving East to Sandringham. The ex-West Coast player returns with a wealth of experience for our younger players.
Outridge Medalist Chris Phelan will continue his role as a leader as well as halfback Wayde Twomey. The two have combined for 79 games over the last two years and are in-valuable around the club rooms.
Subiaco kick off their season this Saturday against Peel Thunder at Bendigo Bank Stadium.
