SFC 2017: Coaching Staff
Thursday, 16 February 2017
Subiaco have accumulated a vast range of experience and talent across their coaching staff for the 2017 season and will look to streamline their football operations.
A couple of fresh faces like 2016 WA U18’s coach Andrew Lockyer & Simpson medallist Paul Vines re-shape the look of the coaching contingent but there’s also a strong influence from various areas of the football industry.
Subi re-structured their development system over the off-season and are delighted to have talent such as Martine Pearman (Coastal Titans), Rob Forrest (SFC Premiership player) & Matt Scully as a part of the “D-League” coaching team.
The league coaching team remains reasonably similar with the only change being Paul Vines coming in as forwards coach.
Here's the senior coaching staff for 2017.
LEAGUE COACHING STAFF
JARRAD SCHOFIELD - LEAGUE COACH
Schofield will lead the club in his fifth year as Subiaco head-coach. Schoey stands as the winningest coach in the WAFL with a record of 58-29 since taking the job in 2013. Schofield is signed with Subiaco until the end of 2018.
NIGEL HAMILTON - ASSISTANT COACH - BACKS
Hamilton has been Schofield’s trusted assistant over the last few years and has proven an invaluable asset in the war-room. Nigel will work on the Lions backline structures in 2017.
PAUL VINES - ASSISTANT COACH - FORWARDS
Paul Vines is a new addition and will look after the forwards in 2017. Vines won the 2004 Simpson medal and played for the Lions from the early 2000’s. Vines got his coaching start with Subiaco in 2008 and has since coached at Swan Districts and Peel Thunder.
STEVE WASLEY - ASSISTANT COACH - MIDFIELDERS
Steven Wasley will govern the midfield group again after an excellent campaign in 2016. Subi’s stoppage work and ball movement was at the top of the WAFL and Wasley will utilise his insight as a ruckman again in 2017. Wasley will also be in charge of developing all ruck and key position players through every stage of the development program.
DIRECTOR OF COACHING
Wayne Orsi will remain in the role of Director of Coaching Development and will continue to oversee the coaching group at Subiaco.
DEVELOPMENT LEAGUE COACHING STAFF (formerly Reserves)
ANDREW LOCKYER - D- LEAGUE - HEAD COACH
Andrew Lockyer is the former WA State U18’s coach and he will also oversee the newly re-structured talent development pathway for Subiaco.
RYAN REDFERN - D-LEAGUE ASSISTANT
Ryan Redfern will focus on developing the young players transitioning into the senior system.
MARTINE PEARMAN - D-LEAGUE ASSISTANT
Martine Pearman is a highly experience sports professional and steps into her second year as an assistant for the Lions. Pearman will focus on the defenders and backline structure for the Lions development league side in 2017. Pearman is also an assistant coach for the Fremantle Dockers AFLW’s side and head coach of the Coastal Titans.
ROBERT FORREST - D-LEAGUE ASSISTANT
Dual premiership player Robbie Forrest returns in a coaching role and will direct the midfield for the D-league in 2017. Forrest played over 100 games for Subiaco from 2005-2014.
MATT SCULLY - D-LEAGUE ASSISTANT
Matt Scully is a fresh face at the club and will operate as the D-League forwards coach. Scully comes to the SFC from West Perth.
