Tuesday, July 17, 2018 - 9:57 AM

The Subiaco GOLDS and Ladies Forum Coterie Groups held a successful Christmas in July event at their most recent July meeting.

Close to 50 members of GOLDS and the Ladies Forum were in attendance to enjoy this special occasion event that happens every July.

A number of special guests were in attendance including Subiaco league players Drew Rohde, McKenzie Lawrence and Kaidyn Fullgrabe.

All three boys had different football journeys to arrive at Subiaco and play league football in 2018, with Rohde, Lawrence and Fullgrabe speaking of their respective football careers so far as well as their ambitions for the remainder of their Subiaco careers.

Club Chief Executive Officer Peter Capes also spoke in front of the assembled group to outline the current state of the club in an off-field and operations position.

Capes gave further detail to the ongoing financial climate that the club is operating within and reiterated that there is a need on all Subiaco members and fans to be more proactive in supporting and promoting the club to prospective partnerships and business development initiatives.

A special guest of the Ladies Forum was Tanya Ferguson the club’s experienced and highly respected head trainer.

Ferguson who has been the head trainer since 2008 gave the groups an update towards her team and their performance this year.

A highly informative presentation was provided on how Ferguson’s support group perform on training nights and match days, how they continue to assess their own performances and how they have handled key and serious injuries in a professional manner.

The GOLDS also secured the services of an internationally renowned guest as well, with Angelo Porcaro’s friendship with International Cricket umpire Mick Martell allowing the two groups to have a very unique insight from a man who has travelled the world to officiate cricket matches.

Martell informed the room of his background from umpiring at grade cricket in Perth, all the way through to umpiring in International matches across the globe.

Martell had his own presentation highlighting some of the key points of his career and also gave the room into his personal insight on umpiring decisions and how umpires perform in the highly stressful international spotlight.

As always, Mick Bailey was the groups resident chef putting together a festive evening and menu, ably supported by catering coordinator Basil Fuller.

Fuller was also instrumental in creating two special festive tribute videos featuring the key members of the GOLDS group.

Thanks is given to the numerous group members, in particular the Ladies of the Ladies Forum for their added plates for the night.

Next meeting for GOLDS and the Ladies Forum is set for Tuesday August 7th with another group of special guests set to be in attendance.

Subiaco physiotherapist Craig King, whose family have strong ties to the club will be among the guest speakers while players in attendance will be recent debutant Tom Edwards-Baldwin, the in form Braden Fimmano, young key forward Ryan Borchet and veterans Kyal Horsley and Lachlan Delahunty.
