Thursday, August 16, 2018 - 8:47 AM

The year long trip down memory lane on the Subiaco website continues, this week putting Round 20 into focus.

It is another round that has delivered his share of memorable moments, and a round that has had a few massive wins and epic close battles.

Among the best of the round was two classics 30 years a part, a memorable win in a down year of 1965 and an all time great game against rivals West Perth in 1995.

This is Round 20 in Memory Lane.

1985

-- Subiaco 200 d 82 East Perth --

On this day in 1985 Subiaco played one their most incredible games. Although they were only playing bottom of the league East Perth, the numbers they put up on this day were out of this world. The match itself was obviously dominated by Subiaco leading to them scoring 200 points which ranks in the top 5 for points scored in a single game in the club’s history. The individual performance’s in the match where enormous, as 16 players for Subiaco recorded 20 disposals or more with 3 of those players recording 40 disposals or more, those being Peter Featherby, Dwayne Lamb & Bevan Warner. The forwards were also outstanding with Steven Leishman & Stephen Sells kicking 6 goals each and Laurie Keene kicking 7.

Round 20, 1965

-- Subiaco 93 d 92 Claremont --

Struggling Subiaco played host to finals bound Claremont in this round 20 contest. Claremont entered the match needing a win however Subiaco weren’t planning on making it easy. Subiaco would come to play in the first half as they got out to a 15 point lead at quarters end. A third quarter comeback for Claremont saw them regain the lead by a point setting up an epic finish. The last quarter would by goal for goal but it would be Subiaco getting the last laugh on this day giving their fans something to cheers for after a down year. Austin Robertson Jr. was in fine form on this day kicking 7 goals, leading Subiaco to the win.

2008

-- Subiaco 167 d 36 Claremont --

Subiaco’s amazing 2008 campaign would continue with this 131 point rout of Claremont. The Subiaco fans became accustom to witnessing massive victories throughout this year, and it was no different on this occasion. As expected Subiaco completely dominated Claremont not taking the foot off their throat at any point in the match. Brad Smith played a great game scoring 9 goals and together with Phil Read who recorded 27 disposals and 2 goals, they led Subiaco to the big win.

1986

-- Subiaco 154 d 86 Swan Districts --

Top of the table Subiaco had to win this match in order to lock up top spot. Their campaign so far had been excellent and they wanted to finish it strong. The match would go as plan holding the Swan districts to 11 points in the first half while scoring 96 of their own. Although the Swan Districts improved in the second half they were no match for Subiaco. Neil Taylor produced an incredible game recoding 43 disposals and Todd Breman and Stephen Sells were elite up forward scoring 7 goals each.

1995

-- Subiaco 143 d 140 West Perth --

Sitting 24 points clear at the top of the table, Subiaco were locked in finals when they played a West Perth side fighting for their position. The match was incredibly high scoring and for the first 3 quarters Subiaco were cruising to another win. However, an amazing 11 goal last term from West Perth saw them roaring back into the contest. However, Subiaco’s early good work was enough to hold West Perth off. Andrew Donnelly was vital up forward kicking 4 goals on the day.
