Subi sinks to West Perth

Subiaco have suffered their second loss of the season with a ten-point defeat at the hands of West Perth.

The Falcons broke the contest open in the third quarter when they kicked three unanswered goals to hold a 22-point lead at three quarter time.

Despite a spirited comeback by the Lions bringing the deficit down to just five points in the last quarter, the reigning premiers held their nerve to run out winners.

Matthew Boland continues to be a shining light in the forward line for the Subiaco Lions kicking five goals and presenting strongly.

The midfield efforts of Jason Bristow and Kyal Horsley were also admirable, but they couldn’t hold West Perth’s ball carriers in a rampant third quarter.

The loss means the Subiaco fall to second on the WAFL ladder behind Swan Districts after their big win over Claremont.

GAME CHANGERS

DANGEROUS DELUCA
We made note during the week of Subiaco’s relentless pressure and highlighted the work of leading tackler Chris Deluca. He backed up our comments perfectly in the clash with West Perth chasing and tackling frenetically. Deluca defined his style of play with a crucial chase and tackle in the fourth as Subiaco were making their charge. The 19 year old then went back and calmly hit Matt Boland perfectly with a long bomb to set up a goal.

FETHERS FINISHES
Bill Fetherstonhaugh has been working hard in the reserves to earn a shot at playing league football. Jarrad Schofield has given Fethers an opportunity in the last two games and he hasn’t failed to deliver. The young gun had 15 possessions and his first goals as a Subiaco league player.

THIRD QUARTER SHUTDOWN
Subiaco went to sleep in a crucial period of the third quarter where they let West Perth score three quick goals.  Their inability to negate the effects of Rohan Kerr and Steven Potente hurt the Lions as the Falcons pair ran wild. Coach Jarrad Schofield will surely address the inconsistencies in Subiaco’s intensity and concentration as they focus on Claremont in Round Ten.

QBE MAN OF THE MATCH
