Sail On, Subi
- Friday, 07 November 2014
Subi’s fan base stretches far and wide and this week we caught up with loyal Lions Mike Wear and Brian Kerman.
The duo have been competing for the Perth Dinghy Sailing Club and proudly representing the Subiaco guernsey on the wild West Australian oceans. Mike was a head trainer at Subiaco during the 90’s and Brian is a loyal member of the last 40 years.
“Me and my partner Brian Kerman have deep ties with the Subiaco Football Club. I was a trainer between 85-96 including head trainer for the last four years and Brian used to go to primary school with club legend Basil Fuller,
“After Subiaco won the 2014 Grand Final we thought we’d represent the club and what it stands for.” Said Wear
Wear was listening into the Lions 2014 Grand Final triumph from overseas; where work often takes the long-time Subi fan.
“The grand final win this year was fantastic. I was in Singapore on business listening on the iPad and it was great to see Schoey and the boys turn it around. I watched Schoey play in his early years at the club and he was one of the most skillful, talented players coming through the program. So to witness him win another Grand Final at coach was great.” Said Wear
Kerman and Wear have been proudly donning the maroon and gold every Saturday and the kit doesn’t go without attention.
“A lot of guys recognise the kit and it’s great for a bit of banter between the rest of the guys that sail. Most of them follow football and the WAFL closely like me and Brian so it makes for a great atmosphere.” Said Wear
“We’ll wear the kit for the rest of the sailing season and hopefully get some results. It has been a pretty lucky kit so far so hopefully that can continue.”
With Wear’s work taking him internationally for the 2015 season he won’t have the opportunity to watch the might Lions but we can guarantee there will be radio waves hitting ears of the long time fan.
“I’ll be working overseas for a majority of the year but I’ll be listening and supporting the Lions in 2015 without a doubt. Added Wear
