Horsley focused on big finish

Subiaco welcomed the return of Kyal Horsley last week and the skipper made a significant impact.
Horsley overcame a glute injury to play against the Swans and gathered 30 disposals and eight inside 50’s despite being rested in the last quarter.

“I thought I got through the game okay, I was pretty tired by the end of it. Lucky Schoey benched me at the 18 minute mark of the last quarter because I was definitely starting to fatigue.” said Horsley
“On the ball I thought I did alright, structurally I was okay but I could still be a little sharper around the stoppages. As a team we got a good win but obviously still a lot to work on.”

Subi face premiership contenders West Perth at Kingsway Reserve this week and Lions captain Horsley believes the first team to react will get the win.
“Obviously on a new ground it’s going to be a new experience for everyone, West Perth included. When you play in a new environment the first team to adjust has the advantage and we’ve seen from this season that the team with the early start generally wins the game.” said Horsley
“West Perth are well structured and have a lot of talent so we’re going to need a structurally sound, four quarter performance to get the win.”
Kyal Horsley carries the ball into the forward line against the Swans
The Lions midfield will be at full strength against the Falcons with the return of Adam Cockie and Horsley says the focus is on staying disciplined.
“We need to stick to our structures and get to the ball first. West Perth throw a lot of looks at you and have clever midfielders so if you’re getting to the contest late they can catch you out.” said Horsley
“There’s a big focus on the inside work and getting our structures right and doing it for the full 120.”
With two games left until finals, Horsley acknowledged the importance of momentum heading into September.

“It’s hugely important, the competition is so tight this year and the fact we’re two games clear isn’t a proper reflection on how close the teams actually are.” said Horsley
“All of the premiership contenders are looking to take momentum into the finals so we have to be sharp.”
