2nd Semi Final Match Preview v South Freo

Thursday, September 16, 2021 - 9:32 AM

Now that the opponent has been decided, Subi can properly prepare for this Saturday’s monster of a game against one of the stronger competitors in the comp and reigning premiers, South Freo.

FORM

Subi are coming into this game with 14 wins from the season and as a result of being minor premiers were given a week off as they went straight into the second Semi-Final this weekend. Subi has won their fair share of finals in their deep history so the setting and significance of this Saturday will be something the club is well equipped for.

Their most recent finals experience being back in 2019 when they won both finals they featured in, one of which resulted in their 15th Premiership being awarded to them.

Also, the flag itch that went missing in 2020 has reappeared this time round and ultimately is what will motivate them to get the win on the weekend.

OPPONENTS FORM

South Freo know that finals feeling just as well as wanting that ‘back2back’ title to add to their history. The Bulldogs capped off their 2021 season with three wins in a row and finishing second on the ladder meant they played 3rd placed Claremont in the first weeks of finals. In the said game on Saturday just gone, South Freo went home narrow one-point winners and advanced themselves into this week’s Semi with Subi. In the tightest of contests, the Dogs managed to make their way into the game after Claremont got the jump on them early.

GOALKICKERS

In round 16 just a few months ago Subi won 10.13 (73) to 4.5 (29) as probably a statement to the rest of the comp that they mean business this year downing the reigning premiers. Braut, Sokol and Nick Martin all kicking two or more on the day, Braut with three, while Kitchin, Marsh and Bailey Matera all contributed with one goal each.

LAST TWO TIMES

It was Subi’s round 16 win that’s the most recent encounter between the two sides, but prior to that was round 5 of this season when the Bulldogs handed the Lions their first loss, three straight goals and showed what South Freo was capable of this year. Although, come finals and more is on the line it becomes all the sweeter to get those wins against your rivals. Over the last 12 seasons/years Subiaco and South Freo have gone head to head six times and the most recent of those occasions was the 2019 Grand Final when Subi demolished the Bulldogs in their biggest winning margin in a Grand Final.
