2nd Semi Final Match Recap v South Freo

They’ve done it yet again, Subiaco have found themselves in the grand final for the 28th time to be played in two weeks’ time for their shot at their 16th Premiership.

Subi took care of South Fremantle over the weekend in a 22-point semi-final win.
The game to get them to big dance seemed to have Subi’s name all over it from the beginning. The Lions didn’t get the first but from that point onwards governed the scoring to half time piling on a 34-point lead, held their opponents scoreless and had all but guaranteed their spot in the big dance with still a half to come.

After Souths kicked their first and the game’s first goal of the game, their second didn’t come until they could reset in the main break and come out in the third quarter to kick five straight. The Bulldogs showed some fight as they outscored the Lions in the latter half of the match and narrowed the margin to just 17, the lowest of the game, in the third term.

Subi pulled away slightly in the last quarter and then made it a sure thing kicking the last few of the game and made it near impossible for the game to slip away from their grasp.

Subiaco’s midfield proved too much for the dogs with their constant pressure in the first half and set the team up for the remainder of the match. Top of that group being Greg Clark who was highly influential with 25 disposals and 13 tackles to his name, while Hayden Kennedy’s efforts down back to minimise South’s small forwards impacts didn’t go unnoticed with 21 disposals. Delahunty liked to show his class as he has all season with 29 hitouts and 18 touches around the ground.

While taking eight in the air, Sokol finished with 3.2 to his name and to join him in the scoring sector, Jack Mayo had one of his best games; 15 disposals, 6 marks and kicked 2.1.
The third of the dual scorers, Brandon Matera had a solid performance in his first final with the maroon and gold booting 2.2.

The excitement and anticipation now builds over this next week off as it all comes down to one final game to put on show just how impressive their season has been.
