Experience at the level and capable role players will be the key to the Colts returning to finals this year according to the man in charge of the group.

Chayce Creedy has been the Colts coach since 2019, and saw success with the side in 2020 where they won the premiership.

However, after a season where the Lions missed the finals, he said the squad has enough experience at the level to be competitive.

“It's a very settled type side, and they've all had a little bit of experience,” Creedy said.

“I think what we've found over the preseason is that we've got a squad with a lot of flexibility within it.

“We've got a very even group of players who can all play their roles.”

The 2020 Colts premiership coach said it will be exciting to see the players who came into the squad from the undefeated future’s campaign last year to get even more games under their belt and improve as footballers.

Creedy said the group has created a tight bond, which will hopefully translate to on field success.

“They've been able to settle really quickly and become culturally really strong,” he said.

“They spend a lot of time socially together, and things like that put them in a really good spot to perform strongly as a group.”

Subiaco Colts captain Jacob Evitt agreed, saying the group has remained tight, with the majority of the squad going into their second season.

“The feeling is quite strong, this year we’ve really gelled,” he said.

“That's playing a big part in how we are rocking up to training, happy and bubbly and ready to go.”

Creedy said the Colts group has had people from within the football club, including club legends Brad Smith and Kyal Horsley, as well as current league players Jack Mayo and Hayden Kennedy speak to the playing group about the values of the club.

He said the coaching staff have worked hard to instill the ideals of the club into the squad.

In regard to season 2022, Creedy said the group is united in the goal of team success but was also excited to see the group grow as people.

“They're going to be a very successful group whether they playoff in the grand final or not, just because of the way that they hold themselves,” he said.

“The way that they communicate and talk to each other and operate in the community, I'm excited to see that develop.”

There are a few players in particular to look out for this season who could be key to the Colts side’s success.

Jacob Evitt will be the leader in the midfield, and will look to continue where he left off in 2021, which ended with him claiming the Taylor Medal.

Spearhead Koltyn Tholstrop is someone who will look to develop as a key forward for the side.

The Newtown-Condingup product has tasted league football at country level, and is someone Subiaco’s coaching staff are looking forward to seeing in action.

Tyrell Dewar is another who has plenty of skills and brings a heap of energy to the side.

He will look to be creative in his new role in the backline this season.
