Friday, June 30, 2023 - 10:58 AM by Matt Paddick

Fresh off the bye, Subiaco will be looking to continue their impressive run in 2023, when they take on an in-form Tigers at Revo Fitness Stadium on Saturday July 1.

With both teams sitting on the same record, a win from either side would see them move a game clear on top spot.

There will be plenty to play for in this clash of WAFL titans, with midfielder Liam Hickmott set to run out in his 50th match.

FORM

Prior to the bye, the Lions hit their straps, winning four in a row.

Amongst them were a couple of fighting wins over Swan Districts and Peel Thunder.

However, the Lions also showed they are able to put teams away, with strong wins over West Coast and West Perth.

With a week off to refresh, Subiaco turn their attention to Claremont who are in a similar position.

The top of the ladder Tigers have won three in a row, with their last loss coming in round seven against East Fremantle.

A finals-like intensity is to be expected, in a game which could be crucial as the WAFL heads into the second half of the season.

LAST TIME THEY MET

Subiaco first announced their credentials in 2023 when they took on Claremont in round three of this season.

Ryan Borchet kicked five to help his side to a 24-point win over the Tigers.

At the other end, Galen Savigni was important in defence with 19 disposals, while Taj Schofield looked impressive with 20 touches.

ONE TO WATCH

While other players often get the limelight at Subiaco, Max Walters’ influence can not be understated.

The 26-year-old is one of the cleanest players in the competition, and his ability to impact in any position and in any scenario is an asset to the Lions.

The 100-game player has plenty of experience to draw upon, and could be the difference come Saturday.
