Subiaco 16's Open Talent Carnival with Win

On Friday night, the Subiaco 16’s secured their first victory of the WAFL 16’s Talent Carnival with an eight-point victory over West Perth at Leederville Oval.

The Lions were roaring from the opening bounce, looking far too slick offensively for the Falcons, but were also defensively sound. They won the first quarter by three goals.

They began the second quarter off in emphatic fashion with the first two goals coming in quick succession. But the Falcons came back hard booting the next four goals to bring life back into the contest.

The half-time address by Coach Thomas Lowndes saw the Lions put the foot down in the third quarter with three goals coming before West Perth could register a score.

Subiaco got off to a ripping start in the final quarter with Connor Faraone drilling the first goal of the game. But then the Falcons booted the next four goals of the game to almost snatch victory away from the Lions. Subiaco steadied with the last goal in the games closing minutes recording a memorable victory.

Next week, Subiaco travels to Bendigo Bank Stadium where they will take on Peel Thunder on Friday night at 5:30pm.

SONS OF GUNS

Subiaco fans got a glimpse at the future on Friday night and that future included two blasts from the past, with sons of former premiership players Warren Dean and Jarrad Schofield in action. Cameron Dean had a great contribution to the win, mixing time between half back and through the midfield. Taj Schofield meanwhile worked hard on the inside of the midfield, showing glimpses of his obvious talent.

BROUGHTON NAME RETURNS

Another family connection on Friday night saw Tyler Broughton, whose uncle Greg Broughton was another premiership player of the Subiaco Football Club. On Friday night it was Tyler Broughton who had a great impact in a Subiaco win as he helped the midfield grab the ascendancy throughout the match.

With West Perth pressing late in the last quarter and getting within two points, the game was calling for a Subiaco player to stand up. The player who did exactly that was Sandon Page. Producing an outstanding final five minutes, Page hunted the ball finally getting rewarded as he delivered a long driving kick inside fifty which led to small forward Antonio Monteleone kicking a goal that put the Lions up by eight points with just a minute remaining.
