1 Win, 1 Loss, 1 Draw - Minor Grades Pre-Season Week 3 Wrap Up
Subiaco’s Reserves completed a perfect pre-season with a third win from three games with a hard fought 35 point win over East Fremantle at East Fremantle Oval.
Subiaco produced a four quarter display as they extended their lead at every change, but were forced to continually work hard to overcome a determined East Fremantle opposition.
As was the case with the league side a night before, the reserves made a strong start kicking five goals to two in the opening half and extending the lead to 19 points at half time. In a tense third quarter only three goals could be kicked, before Subiaco finally pulled away in the last quarter finishing up 35 point victors.
Young midfielders McKenzie Lawrence and Daniel Leach led the way for Subiaco with a combined 43 possessions and 11 tackles. Up forward Ryan Mu made the most of his chances to kick four goals as did Christian Martin who kicked three goals from just four kicks for the day.
In positive signs for Subiaco’s league team, Craig Hoskins and Jordan Lockyer played their first games of the pre-season as they work their way into the 2018 WAFL season.
Others to impress included Andy Doyle who gave a strong showing in the ruck with 42 hit-outs, Aaron Breman who laid an equal team high five tackles and Tom Edwards-Baldwin who continued his strong performance stepping up to senior football.
As the reigning and defending premiers of the 2018 WAFL Reserves competition, the start has been strong, but the competition will heat up as East Perth await on Good Friday in round one of the WAFL season.

In mixed results for Subiaco’s talent sides, the Subiaco colts suffered a final pre-season loss against East Fremantle, while the Subiaco 16’s drew with East Fremantle.
For the colts, the Lions were left to rue a slow start conceding five of the first six goals of the game. Despite working there way back into the contest in the second quarter, the young Lions could not maintain the pressure in the second half as East Fremantle powered to a comfortable win.
Brothers Liam and Will Hickmott were among the best in a losing cause for the Subiaco colts with Liam having 24 possessions and 11 tackles while Will had 22 possessions.
Luke Foley had a strong game with 29 possessions and a goal while Tristan Hobley finished with 18 possessions
Jack Mayo kicked two goals to be Subiaco’s only multiple goal kicker on the night.
Meanwhile in a Friday night fixture, Subiaco’s 16s were left to rue a poor second half, which ultimately cost them victory forced to settle for a draw.
Subiaco kicked eight goals in the first half to pull out to a 30 point lead but could only manage two goals after half time as East Fremantle stormed back to tie the game.
The Subiaco colts will have their first match of the 2018 WAFL season on Good Friday at 11am while the 16’s will play the fourth game of their carnival on Good Friday with a 9am start.
