Memory Lane - Round 2 Flashback

Thursday, April 5, 2018 - 4:49 PM

Our trip down memory lane continues on the eve of Round Two, with five great Subiaco memories from Round Two of seasons past.

Fittingly, the top memory for this week includes this Saturday’s opponent and a game 11 years ago that is fondly remembered by Lions fans.

Round 2, 2007

Subiaco 30.13.189 d South Fremantle 5.9.39

Round 2, 2007 brought about a historic afternoon for Subiaco after a dominate display against South Fremantle. The 193 points that were scored ranks inside the top six for most points in a game. Subiaco bagged 11 goals in a stunning final quarter burst. The massive victory was brought about in part due to the display of Brad Smith who scored 11 goals, which is the most goals scored in a single game by any player this millennium. Complimenting Smith were Blake Broadhurst and Ali Pickett who each kicked four goals while Mark Haynes had 29 possessions and Chris Hood had 26 possessions to lead the rout.

Round 2, 2005

Subiaco 28.14.182 d Perth 3.4.22

The Round Two win in 2005 was arguably the most dominant in the history of the club. A dominant Subiaco won by 160 points holding Perth to just two behinds in the first half and just three goals for the game. This game had 12 induvial goal scorers for Subiaco with Sam Larkins kicking six goals and Lachlan Oakley kicking five as defensive stalwarts Darren Rumble and Aidan Parker were rock solid at the other end.

Round 2, 1986

Subiaco 28.20.188 d East Perth 11.7.73

On this day in 1986, Peter Featherby produced a record performance when he recorded 46 disposals and kicked 5 goals. It remains the only 40 possession, 5 goal game in Subiaco history. On the back of this monster performance by Featherby, Subiaco smashed East Perth by 115 points. Stephen Sells kicked six goals and Dwayne Lamb collected 33 possessions in the big win.

Round 2, 2002

Subiaco 13.11.89 d East Perth 13.10.88

Heading into the 2002 season, East Perth were heading towards a premiership three-peat and started their season with a demolition win over West Perth. With Subiaco having kicked just one goal in a half the week earlier against cellar dweller Swans, few gave the Lions a chance of beating the Royals. However in a memorable upset victory, a young Subiaco side came from five goals down in the second quarter to steal a memorable one point victory. David Clark and David Sierakowski each kicked three goals in the win while Paul Vines had 31 possessions.

Round 2, 1962

Subiaco 24.16.160 d Claremont 11.7.73

The 1962 was the first season for the club’s all-time leading goal scorer, Austin Robertson Jr. In round 2, Austin, who was playing just his second league game for the club recorded his first 10 goal game in a demolition of Claremont. Austin would go on to record 13 more games with 10 goals or more in a great Subiaco career.
