Colts & Reserves Fall in Round 6
It was a tough start to the day in Round 6 of the 2018 WAFL season for Subiaco as both the colts and reserves sides dropped games to West Perth.
The loss by the reserves was particularly disappointing given that the Lions led most of the day, only to be overrun late by a charging West Perth side.
After a tight opening to start the game, Subiaco were able to take the advantage nearing in on half time, with three quick goals allowing the Lions to build a 13 point lead.
The lead was extended early in the second as Tom Edwards-Baldwin goaled inside the first couple of minutes, but that would be the last goal for the half for Subiaco as the lead was reduced to five points.
After half time Subiaco again made the better of the start, but three goals to West Perth saw the Lions give up their first lead of the day. The Lions bounced back to take the lead heading into the last, but from there it was all West Perth as they kicked six goals to one in the final stanza to outlast the Lions.
Shannon Nelson, Daniel Leach and Sean Bradley joined Edwards-Baldwin in kicking two goals, while Daniel Leach had 30 possessions and Braden Fimmano had 28 possessions to lead the way for Subiaco.
GAME CHANGERS
FIMMANO CHANGE-UP
Braden Fimmano played one of his best games for the season mixing a defensive role in the second half with an ability to find his own ball. Presented a challenge at half-time, Fimmano relished the chance, ending the game as Subiaco’s best and continuing his press for senior selection.
OUT-TACKLED
West Perth doubled Subiaco’s tackle count on the day, 98 to 48 as Subiaco were a severely disappointing minus 50 in the tackle count. While West Perth had seven players lay more than five tackles, Subiaco had just one, with McKenzie Lawrence laying a team high seven tackles. At the other end, Subiaco had 10 players who recorded one, or no tackles on the afternoon.
WORKING THEIR WAY IN
Premiership midfielder Scott Hancock played his first game of the season and got through unscathed finishing with 20 possessions in a promising first up hit-out. Meanwhile Jack Fletcher played his first game in Subiaco colours after crossing from East Fremantle in the off-season.

COLTS RECAP
Subiaco’s Colts suffered their first loss of 2018 as their four game winning start to the season was snapped with a 59 point loss to West Perth on Saturday morning.
After kicking the first goal of the game, it was a downward spiral as West Perth kicked seven of the next nine goals. Subiaco hit back with three goals heading into half time, reducing the margin to two goals at the long break.
That was as close as the game would get though, as West Perth kicked 10 goals to two in the second half running away to a commanding win.
Tristan Hobley and Will Hickmott led Subiaco with 24 possessions apiece while Jacob Peletier also had 20.
Up forward Jack Mayo and Sam West led the way with two goals each.
The challenges keep coming for Subiaco’s colts. Following the bye this week, they travel to Mandurah to take on a red hot Peel who smashed Claremont by 78 points at the weekend.
GAME CHANGERS
SEVEN UNANSWERED
The game was taken away from Subiaco in a 15 minute stretch in the third quarter as West Perth slammed on seven straight unanswered goals. It was a disappointing stretch for Subiaco as the midfield failed to get ascendancy and the defence was unable to hold up against the weight of supply coming in.
MISSING STATE 18S
After being selected for the WA State 18’s during the week, Xavier Peacock, Mitch Georgiades and Luke Foley were all missing from Subiaco’s team on Saturday. The drive that Foley gave in the midfield was missed, while the presence of both Peacock and Georgiades was also notably absent.
SUBIACO 3.2 6.3 7.4 8.8.56
WEST PERTH 4.2 8.3 15.4 18.7.115
BEST: W. Hickmott, Hobley, Peletier, Deng, Plane.
