GOLDS & Ladies Forum May Review & June Details
The most recent GOLDS and Ladies Forum combined meeting was held earlier in May with another good turnout of members and as usual great support from the Subiaco playing group.
GOLDS and Ladies Forum members were treated to a great night of guest speakers as three former AFL players who have joined Subiaco for 2018 were the special guests in Zac Clarke, Josh Deluca and Ben Newton.
Deluca is a former premiership player at Subiaco and returned after a stint on Fremantle’s list, while Newton and Clarke were the two marquee off-season signings for the Subiaco Football Club.
As usual, long time GOLDS members Angelo Porcaro and Ron Tester asked the questions of the three boys as the interview masters for the evening.
The GOLDS and Ladies Forum heard how Zac commenced playing footy in junior football in Melbourne, with his strong performances at underage level seeing him selected to the Vic Metro Under 18’s. Zac was drafted in 2008 at pick 37 to Fremantle where he went on to play 101 games including in the 2013 AFL Grand Final. Since making the move to Subiaco, Zac told the room how he was enjoying his football being able to get back on the park after an injury interrupted 2017.
Meanwhile Ben told the room about commencing his own junior footy career down with Mundijong and then progressed through the Subiaco colts program. Ben was drafted in 2010 at pick 35 to Port Adelaide playing four games. As a free agent Ben was picked up by Melbourne and played 13 games across 2015 and 2016. After a year out of footy last year, Ben told the room how he was excited to get back on the field with Subiaco this year. Ben was highly complementary of the club culture that Subiaco has created.
Finally for Josh, it was a return of sorts, having previously spoken to GOLDS and Ladies Forum meetings prior to being AFL drafted. Josh took the group back to his junior roots, with Sorrento Duncraig and retold of his winning of the 2013 Subiaco Colts Fairest & Best. Josh mentioned how he was excited to be back playing with Subiaco and was enthusiastic towards the professionally structures that the club continues to have in place and the strength that existed in the football operations.
Corporate Manager Cameron Palmer was the other special guest of the evening as he gave GOLDS and Ladies Forum members an update on the happenings around the club, including the work that is being done to revitalise membership for 2018 and beyond, the work that has been done to the club’s donate channel, upcoming events scheduled and the current outlook for sponsorship at the club.
The Ladies Forum also announced their major fundraiser of the year, a sausage sizzle which was held as a great success on the morning of the Subiaco V West Perth match.
Voting for the first month of GOLDS was decided and announced with the April winner being captain Kyal Horsley, with the runner up being Josh Josh Deluca.
Dinner was once again kindly cooked by club stalwart Mick Bailey, with Mick doing an outstanding job on the barbeque as guests enjoyed a barbeque dinner and drinks across the evening.
Next month’s combined GOLDS and Ladies Forum meeting will see league coach Jarrad Schofield and football manager Daniel Vidovich present as the guest speakers for the evening while captain Kyal Horsley will be among the players who are in attendance at the next meeting.
Next GOLDS and Ladies Forum combined meeting will be held on Tuesday evening, June 5th.
All Members are invited to attend and are encouraged to contact Ross Lockhart to confirm their attendance on 0407 903 489.
