Subiaco Talent Manager Michael Farmer travelled to Kalgoorlie last weekend for the annual zone carnival featuring teams from Esperance and Kalgoorlie.

On the Saturday a Year Nine Kalgoorlie side played against a Year Nine Esperance Side and a Year 10 Kalgoorlie side also played a Year 10 Esperance side with both games played to a high standard.

Than on the Sunday the teams were split into two sides making an Esperance A and Esperance B side and Kalgoorlie A and Kalgoorlie B side with again some competitive games played out.

Strong performances from both Saturday and Sunday’s action assisted Farmer and a selection committee in selecting a squad who will now contest the Goldfields Region in the WAFC Inter-regional Carnival in the July School Holidays.

Further the weekend’s games allowed the best performing youth footballers from Subiaco’s two main regional city hubs to experience a higher standard match.

“It was great to see the talent coming out of both regions in this age group,” Farmer said.

“I also want to recognise the tireless effort of the volunteers and our coaches in allowing this talent every opportunity to succeed.”

Over 90 players were given an opportunity across the weekend with a number of strong performances shown.

Standouts of the weekend’s action included notable performances from Year 10’s Cody Mulcahy, Jake Davis and Jeven Tholstrup meanwhile from the Year 9’s Campbell Stevens, Jamie Bratton, Reuben Wakenham and Shaquille Nelson.

“We look forward to seeing these young players progress in Perth in the school holidays,” Farmer said.

“The club has a good recent history of successfully Kalgoorlie and Esperance players coming through and hopefully there is another couple in this group.”
