Memory Lane - Round 14
The year long look back down Memory Lane continues this week with a look back at Round 14 in Subiaco history.
It has been a round of big victories with two memorable three figure victories including one over this weekend's opponents in Peel.
There was a memorable day for Peter Featherby and Andrew MacNish back in the 1980's and another bag of goals for Austin Robertson back in the 1960's. Add in a narrow in a few years ago against Perth, and that is Memory Lane for Round 14.
1986
-- Subiaco 99 d 53 West Perth --
The 1986 season was one of Subiaco’s most dominate seasons, and this team was on show once again. An impressive first quarter, in which Subiaco led by 38, set the tone for the rest of an impressive match by Subiaco. Completely in control for the entirety of the match Subiaco was mainly led by three very impressive performances. Brian Taylor recorded an incredible 46 disposals, and along with Peter Featherby who recorded 38 disposals and 2 goals, as well Andrew Macnish who recorded 36 disposals and 3 goals, Subiaco marched towards another win that season.
1968
-- Subiaco 134 d 78 East Fremantle --
Heading into this round 14 contest, Subiaco were expected to come out with the win, and they did just that. In typical fashion, Subiaco controlled the entirety of the game with the final result never in doubt. However, the day belonged to one man only, Austin Robertson Jr., who collected 20 disposals, 14 marks and 13 goals 2 behinds. His stat line on its own is quite remarkable but to add to it, Austin accounted for 80 of his teams 134 points and single handily scored more points than the opposition. Cam Blakemore also played a good game recording 27 disposals in the win.
2010
-- Subiaco 99 d 94 Perth --
Round 14, 2010 saw Subiaco face a major scare against bottom of the table Perth. A lack lustre first quarter put Subiaco on the back foot as Perth took a 19 point lead into the second quarter. Although an improved second quarter brought the margin to within a goal, Subiaco repeated their first quarter effort in third and were down 19 once again. However, a last quarter comeback in which Subiaco kicked 5 goals to Perth’s 1, was enough for Subiaco to scrap away with the 5 point win. The major contributors were Blake Broadhurst who scored 4 goals as well as Ben Keevers and Shaun Hildebrandt who had 25 disposals each.
1991
-- Subiaco 188 d 87 South Fremantle --
In a fairly even 1991 season, Subiaco were able to get the better of South Fremantle in the big 101 point win. A dominate first quarter saw Subiaco take a 60 point lead heading into the second. Subiaco would continue their classy display for the remaining 3 quarters, as they marched towards there big 101 point win. Mitchell White and Rod Willet played great games, combining for more than half of Subiaco’s goals scoring 7 and 9 goals respectively.
2009
-- Subiaco 170 d 63 Peel --
Top of the table Subiaco faced bottom of the table Peel in what was a routine win for the reigning 4 time champs. Completely dominate throughout the match, Subiaco had a field day against Peel with 13 of their players recording 20 or more disposals. Chad Fletcher led the day with 38 disposals and 2 goals and Trent Dennis-Lane and Blake Broadhurst added a scoring punch combing for 11 goals scoring 5 and 6 goals respectively.
