Subiaco’s 2018 Lions Pride program came to a conclusion last week after eight months of assisting fringe and next generation players of the Subiaco Colts program in their ongoing development as footballers.

The Lions Pride program which has been uniquely created by Subiaco Talent Manager Michael Farmer and the wider talent program at the club, has been a pivotal part of developing talented footballers within the Subiaco district.

The program has operated to provide players with extra opportunities to train as well as play games against quality WAFL opposition.

The Lions Pride squad played in four games, improving their overall performance and understanding of Subiaco Colts expectations with each match.

The Lions Pride squad also provided opportunities for players from Subiaco’s Regional district, players from Kalgoorlie and Esperance to have matches against WAFL calibre opposition.

“It’s been great for the club as a whole to have so many talented young players from our metro and regional districts get the opportunity to develop their football,” Farmer said.

“The potential success rate of players into the main Colts squad in 2019 seems really promising and gives us a strong nucleus to maintain our success of 2018.”

The program initially started with 15 members at the fringe of the Subiaco Colts squad and then in April saw another 15 members of the Subiaco 16’s Talent program added to the Lions Pride squad.

Stuart Page was the coach of the Lions Pride group bringing his extensive experience of football and the Subiaco Talent system to the program.

Page has worked closely with Colts Coach Beau Wardman in ensuring that the program is set to the same standards and expectations demanded of Subiaco’s colts players.

“Stuart’s commitment to the program and energy has been outstanding,” Farmer said.

“He has given players a greater understanding of what Beau and the Colts expect while also helping assist with individual development.”

The Lions Pride has been considered a wide success, as it has given players continued vision and development under Subiaco’s talent program.
