Subiaco Football Club Expresses Disappointment at Reserves Grand Final Decision
The Subiaco Football Club is very disappointed at today’s announcement by the West Australian Football Commission to play the WAFL Reserves Grand Final as a stand alone fixture on Saturday September 22.
All WAFL Clubs made a strong submission to the WAFC about the need to play all three grand finals on WAFL grand final day. The consultation with clubs resulted in a very clear expectation that the reserves grand final was to be on the same day as the league grand final.
The WAFC chose to ignore the clubs demands and instead supported the colts grand final over the reserves competition.
The decision by the WAFC can be interpreted as undermining the history and relevance of the reserves completion and is disrespectful to WAFL clubs, players, coaches, support staff and volunteers who have competed with distinction for all nine WAFL Reserves teams during the 2018 season.
Further the WAFL Reserves Grand Final is potentially fixtured against a West Coast Eagles home preliminary final.
We believe that the decision by the West Australian Football Commission shows a lack of understanding about a club’s fabric and the strong links within clubs and its football operations.
In addition, this decision has the potential to cost a player/s the opportunity to play a reserves grand final if they are held over as an league emergency given that five clubs still have the potential of having league and reserves teams in this year’s Grand Finals.
The Subiaco Football Club again, expresses its disappointment at this WAFC decision.
