By The Numbers - Home & Away Season Special

Tuesday, September 4, 2018 - 4:37 PM

Subiaco produced arguably their best ever home and away season in the WAFL, riding an unbeaten run all the way through 2018.

The Lions were unstoppage across most of the year, with a historically good defence complimented by an efficient forward line to produce a season of all round greatness.

These are some of the incredible numbers from an incredible year so far.

1

UNBEATEN HOME & AWAY SEASON – Three times before Subiaco has recorded one loss seasons, 1912, 2008 and 2017. The 2018 Lions finally became the first Subiaco side to go through a home and away season unbeaten. A great accomplishment for a great home and away season, but ultimately a record that will mean nothing unless Subiaco can win the final game of 2018.

2

CLEAN SWEEP MINOR PREMIERS – The 1967 Royals have company! Through WAFL history that East Perth side of the 60’s, had been the only one to ever clean sweep with three minor premierships across league, reserves and colts. 51 years on from that team, Subiaco joined a historic group as just the second member to win minor premeirships in league, reserves and colts in the one year.

3

UNBEATEN HOME & AWAY SEASON – Only the 1944 Royals and 1946 Sharks had ever gone through a home and away season unbeaten. Again, Subiaco has entered rare air by becoming just the third team to clean sweep the home and away rounds.

5

PERCENTAGE – Subiaco’s final percentage finished at an incredible 221.49. This was the fifth best percentage ever recorded in WAFL history. Not since East Fremantle in 1917 has a team recorded a percentage in excess of 220%.

8

FOUR QUARTER WINS – Eight times in 2018, Subaico produced four quarter wins. Impressively heading towards finals, Subiaco has recorded six of its four quarter wins in the second half of the season.

9

ALL GAMES – Nine Subiaco players played every game in 2018, a mix of youth and experience in the list. Zac Clarke, Lachlan Delahunty, Aaron Heal, Kyal Horsley, Leigh Kitchin, Gus Litherland, Rowen Powell, Drew Rohde and Ben Sokol made up the full list of game warriors for Subiaco in 2018.

11

DEBUTANTS – Despite a dominant home and away season, Subiaco has continued to provide opportunities to both the youth of its club while also giving opportunities as a destination club. Ryan Borchet, Ethan Burnett, Tom Edwards-Baldwin, McKenzie Lawrence and Jacob Miller have all been local products to thrive since debuting. While recruits in Zac Clarke, Kaidyn Fullgrabe, Daniel Leach, Nick Menegola, Ben Newton and Drew Rohde have shown why Subiaco is a destination club, by offering opportunities to develop as WAFL league players.

74

SUB 1000 – The last time in WAFL history that a team conceded less than 1000 points in a season was 74 years ago, back in 1944. Subiaco’s final season against of 926 and 51 points against per game is the best defensive season since World War II. While the two less games of the 2018 season played a part, Subiaco still produced an incredible defensive season.

113

AVERAGE FOR – Not only has Subiaco’s season been a source of historically great defence, it has also produced some of the best attacking play in recent memory. The final average score for of Subiaco was 113.94, a full 10 points more than 2017 and the club’s best average for since 2008. It was the eighth best season in terms of a points for average in Subiaco history.
