Harry Marsh Joins Subiaco

Subiaco is delighted to announce the signing of Harry Marsh who is set to join the club for the 2019 WAFL season.

 

Marsh had been one of the key targets of Subiaco during the 2018-19 off-season, widely considered the best prospect to re-enter WAFL football next year.

 

After playing 25 games in the past three seasons with the Sydney Swans in the AFL, Marsh’s contract was not renewed with Sydney for 2019.

 

Marsh had played an equal career high nine games in 2018 with Sydney, averaging just under 15 disposals a contest including an equal career high of 24 in round five against Adelaide.

 

A powerfully built player, Marsh had found a niche in the Sydney defensive group, regarded as a strong one on one defender, but still capable of providing rebound from behind.

 

For Marsh the decision to join Subiaco was a relatively easy one.

 

“I am really looking forward to joining Subiaco and being a part of their culture,” Marsh said.

 

“Joining a successful group was a pretty important part of my decision.”

 

New Subiaco Football Manager Michael Farmer said it was exciting to bring in a player of Harry’s high character and AFL experience to the Subiaco program.

 

“Anytime a player of Harry’s quality is available, you want to ensure you are doing everything you can to bring them to your program,” Farmer said.

 

“We think Harry will offer us enormous experience both from an on-field playing capacity and knowledge he brings from being involved in a highly respected football program at the Sydney Swans.”

 

Marsh still feels that his first time at AFL level ended prematurely and is keen to put in strong performances with Subiaco with the ambition of getting back onto an AFL list.

 

With mature age players like Zac Clarke, Sam Menegola, Liam Ryan and Matt Priddis all getting AFL opportunities after time spent with Subiaco, the club hopes that Marsh will follow in that tradition of Subiaco being the place to assist in getting that second AFL chance.

 

“There is still a strong desire to play AFL footy for me,” Marsh said.

 

“It is another one of the reasons for joining Subiaco, there is a proven record of players being in a great environment and getting a second chance in the AFL.

 

While Marsh did not know it at the time, watching the 2018 WAFL Grand Final ended up having an impact on where he would play in 2019.

 

Marsh was one of the 25,000 people watching that first WAFL Grand Final at Optus Stadium and was in awe of the display that Subiaco produced in that match.

 

“The way the boys played that Grand Final was on a different level I thought,” Marsh said.

 

“Their skills and their pressure just seemed to be of a higher standard and was something you look at thinking you want to be a part of a team that can play at such a high standard.”

 

Marsh now joins Subiaco, likely to play a key role in the Lions trying to get back to the next WAFL Grand Final at Optus Stadium and repeating as WAFL premiers.

 

With former Sydney Swans teammate Jordan Lockyer already a part of the Subiaco defensive group, Marsh figures to fit seamlessly into the Subiaco side ahead of 2019, with these existing relationships another key part of bringing Marsh to the club.

 

For now, Marsh is keen to come in for 2019 and make an on-field impact in helping maintain the 2018 form of the Lions.

 

“Winning was a pretty important part of the decision, so hopefully I can play a role in us doing just that.” Marsh said.

 

Subiaco commence their season on Saturday April 6^th with Harry and the rest of his Subiaco teammates set to take on East Perth.
