Around The Ground Recap From Round One

Wednesday, April 10, 2019 - 12:04 PM

The Subiaco Football Club first match day of 2019 was held successfully last Saturday with a strong crowd in attendance and a series of engagements for members and fans of the club.

The key event of the day saw the Subiaco Football Club celebrate their historic 2018 season, by raising their premiership flags won in the league, reserves and colts competition.

Pre-game the club assembled as a group, including players, support staff, volunteers, admin staff and board; as the three flags were raised.

Mayor Tracey Roberts, MLA for Carine Tony Krsticevic and Subiaco Patron Kevin Merifield received the honours to raise the premierships, with club directors Russell Smith, Dwayne Lamb and former Vice President John Martin presenting the premiership cups.

Guests at the Subiaco President’s Function were able to have their photo taken with the three premiership cups, with new club photographer Coralie Green taking the photos in the function and across the day.

There was universal positive feedback to the Round One President Function with guest speakers including President Mark Lawrence and past premiership players Brad Stevenson and Adam Cockie.

Also as part of this presentation the club honoured those who donated to the club through the partnership with the Australian Sports Foundation, with President Lawrence and Patron Merifield revealing this new honour board to the aseembled room.

The 2019 Player Group Auction was also held as part of the day with 12 groups and the senior and colts lists going under the hammer, courtesy of Subiaco’s resident guest auctioneer Brad Shorte.

Special thanks goes to all those who generously contributed to the Player Group Auction.

While all this was going on upstairs, downstairs at the team store and membership desk was also a popular destination on Saturday.

Prior to the game and then again at half-time, there were queues out the door as fans tried to get their 2019 membership and into the club’s new official merchandise.

The new 2019 club polo was well received by members, with clearance range stock in hoodies and jackets was also popular amongst Subiaco members and fans.

The line at membership saw the club keep the desk open beyond its usual half time window, with fans still getting membership halfway through the third quarter.

On the field, there was also some great opportunities for the kids, with at Quarter Time, the Gold Box Challenge returning.

The youngest Subiaco and footy fans all had the chance to win a brand new Subiaco mini-football by simply kicking one into the Gold Box.

As well, two young fans won their own min-football by participating in the club’s quarter time trivia contest.

Half time saw little league action with the girls from Clontarf academy representing and at three quarter time, the fifty metre challenge took place as well.

All these on field activities will run standard at Subiaco games in 2019, weather permitting.

Post the league game, league player presentations were held with a crowd of about 60 people hanging around to celebrate a first up win with the league players.

The club thanks all those who attended our first home game of 2019 and encourage continued support at games across the year.
