Subiaco Set for Historic West Coast WAFL Match
Subiaco take on West Coast WAFL for the first time on Good Friday of Round Three of the 2019 WAFL season at their home ground Leederville Oval.
After a Round One win and last week’s win against East Fremantle, Subiaco are aiming to keep their winning form in this history making match.
Subiaco will have at least two forced changes with Drew Rohde and Harry Marsh to go out after suffering injuries last week.
In line for replacements of these two are Aaron Heal, Kaidyn Fullgrabe, Joel Latham, Ben Newton and Braden Fimmano.
Subiaco will be hosting lots of family fun to celebrate Good Friday footy. There will be an Easter egg hunt as well as a kids-zone and the chance to win a signed jumper by spending $10 at the Leederville Sports Bar. There will be guaranteed fun for the whole family.
Due to the limited new WAFL broadcast schedule, Subiaco’s game will not be covered on either radio or television.
Keep tuned to Subiaco’s Facebook page for a very special Subi Game Day broadcast and Instagram account where the players will be taking over for the day.
GAME CHANGERS
PREMIER V PREMIER
It is indeed a historic clash on Good Friday as the first time Subiaco will battle the WAFL’s new 10th team. On top of that, with West Coast having claimed the AFL premiership last year and Subiaco claiming the WAFL premiership; this is truly a Premier V Premier clash. West Coast 2018 premiership players Daniel Venables and Will Schofield played against Peel last week, while Subiaco had 15 of its 2018 league premiership players in action against East Fremantle last week.
TWO STYLES OF ATTACK
In both Round One and Two Subiaco were able to effectively use the ball in the forward line spreading the goals around with 14 different goal kickers across the first two games. Meanwhile, West Coast WAFL have been reliant on Jake Waterman inside 50, who has posted 10 goals in two games so far. Subiaco’s defence will aim to keep Waterman and his fellow forwards quiet in Friday’s match.
FAST STARTERS
Subiaco has made fast starts in both of their opening game wins, kicking nine goals against East Perth in Round One, then holding East Fremantle scoreless in the opening quarter last week. West Coast made a strong start against Peel last week and who can dictate flow of play early could go along way to deciding the game’s ultimate winner.
OPPONENT FORM
It is a marquee battled and Subiaco will look to get their first win in their first game against West. It took West Coast WAFL just two weeks to win their first WAFL match, while Subiaco took three weeks back in 1901 to record their first WAFL win.
OTHER GRADES
After the League game has concluded Subiaco’s Futures will take to the field for a 4pm bounce down. Meanwhile the Reserves and the Colts team have a bye.
