The Winners - Round 4, 2019

Subiaco’s league and reserves sides remained on the unbeaten track following wins over Peel on Saturday, including an over 10 goal thrashing by the league side.

That league win was one of Subiaco’s best four quarter performances of the year helping make it four from four to start 2019.

These were some of the other winners of Saturday’s win:

JORDAN LOCKYER

Lockyer’s stunning form to start 2019 continued at the weekend as he once again was one of Subiaco’s best. Lockyer had a season high 21 disposals, the first time he had passed 20 disposals since June last year. As always Lockyer was rock solid in defence winning some pivotal one on one duals.

SIMON MOORE

Returning to Subiaco in 2019 after a two year absence, Moore played his first league game on Saturday since the 2016 WAFL Grand Final. Moore who played 16 games back in 2016 was forced to work his way back into the senior side upon his return this year. After a string of strong games at Reserves level, Moore was back last week, providing a mix of toughness and flair through the midfield finishing with 14 disposals, eight marks and three tackles in an encouraging return to league football.

TOM EDWARDS-BALDWIN

After a one week absence last week, Edwards-Baldwin was given another opportunity to cement a spot in the Subiaco forward line. Edwards-Baldwin made the most of that chance on Saturday, kicking three goals to go with 16 disposals. With a strong burst of pace, Edwards-Baldwin continues to offer a different look to the Subiaco forward line and that was on display on Saturday.

SOKOL MARKING

Sokol continues to thrive as the key target inside 50 for the Lions. On Saturday it was Sokol’s marking that was a feature as he pulled in a string of tough contested grabs. A typically polished display saw Sokol finish with 17 disposals, eight marks and two goals.

FULLGRABES

Both Kaidyn and Koby Fullgrabe had career days on Saturday. Kaidyn topped 20 disposals at WAFL league level for the first time having 22 disposals and a career high nine marks in an impressive performance. Meanwhile earlier in the day Koby produced his best performance at Reserves level, collecting a career high 16 disposals and being one of the best for the Subiaco Reserves.

DEBUT WINS

Subiaco’s Reserves blooded two more players on Saturday with Sam West and Nixon Hamlet debuting against Peel. West a local product who was part of the 2018 Colts Premiership, while Hamlet was recruited from country footy over the off-season. Both were able to celebrate their debut match with a win as Subiaco continues to provide opportunities to its upcoming colts and recruits in 2019.

HOME ANZAC ROUND MATCH

In a quirk of recent WAFL fixtures, Subiaco has had the bye on WAFL ANZAC Round in five of the past six years, with the one other ANZAC Round match being an away match. Saturday marked the first time since 2012 that Subiaco hosted an ANZAC Round match.
