Subiaco Travel to Bassendean for Swans Battle

In Round 5 of the 2019 WAFL Premiership season Subiaco take on Swan Districts at Bassendean Oval on Saturday for a 2.40pm bounce down.

After four wins to start 2019, Subiaco will look to keep their unbeaten record in tact against a team that has traditionally put up a strong fight on their home ground.

Subiaco will be forced to make at least three changes with Ryan Borchet, Braden Fimmano and Jacob Miller all sustaining injuries last week.

Their replacements are set to come from Andy Doyle, Mackenzie Lawrence, Shannon Nelson, Rowen Powell, Joel Latham and Jack Mayo.

If you cannot make it to Bassendean tomorrow, this will be Subiaco’s first televised game of the year, with coverage on Channel 7 from 2.30pm.

GAME CHANGERS

POSSIBLE RETURNS & DEBUTS

With three changes confirmed, a host of Subiaco players are in line to make returns or debuts in Saturday’s game. Joel Latham, Andy Doyle and Shannon Nelson are in line to play their first games in over two seasons, while Mackenzie Lawrence potentially his first game of 2019. Meanwhile after being emergency the last two weeks, Jack Mayo is again in the mix for a debut Subiaco league game.

IMPROVED SWANS D

While Subiaco has continued to have one of the standout defences of the competition, the Lions will need to be wary of a vastly improved Swans defensive group. Through four games this year, the Swans defence is only conceding 62 points per game. With Subiaco’s attack averaging 98 points per game, being able to find a way to penetrate the Swan Districts defence will be crucial towards victory.

FAST START

Equally important for Subiaco this year has been their first quarters. Subiaco has held teams to just 30 points combined over four games. The 25 point per game difference in first quarters is Subiaco’s best performing quarter of 2019 so far. 

RECENT FORM

Subiaco has won eight of the last nine games against Swan Districts including three at Bassendean Oval. Swans notched up their first win of the season last week after being close to victory in their first three games. Expect a tough fought contest between the Lions and Swans on Saturday.

OTHER GRADES

The early games are ones of conflicting form lines. In the Reserves the unbeaten Lions take on the winless Swans, while in the Colts it is the winless Lions against the unbeaten Swans. Reserves game commences at 11.55am with Colts match to commence at 9.25am. On the Sunday the historic first WAFLW game will take place with Subiaco Women also travelling to Bassendean to play Swans.
