Round 12 Preview
In Round 12 of the 2019 WAFL Premiership Season Subiaco take on West Perth in an away clash this Saturday with bounce down at 2.15pm at Joondalup Arena.
The clash will see a 2018 WAFL Grand Final rematch for the first time this year as top of the ladder Subiaco take on a 5th position West Perth.
Keep an eye on Subiaco’s social media channels for updates across the day and if you cannot make it to the game.
Form
Last week’s match saw Subiaco bring home a 33-point win over South Fremantle as they fought for revenge from their Round 6 loss. The harsh weather conditions saw Subiaco’s players maintaining composure as they moved the ball forward. Subiaco’s ability to use the ball effectively in the forward line saw them kick 13.9 with Borchet coming away with 3 goals whilst Beverley and Edwards-Baldwin came away with 2 goals each. Sitting one game ahead on top of the ladder the Lions will be aiming to ensure they maintain their good form and strong effective use of the football to bring home another win.
Opponents Form
The Falcons who sit in 5th position on the ladder will be hungry to get another win this week after coming off a 57-point win against Swan Districts. Their ability to move the ball in the forward line and kick goals allowed them to score 16.13 with 9 different goal kickers across the day. They have won 5 games out of the last 10 games this season. Therefore, Subiaco’s defensive group must work hard to man up on their players and keep them from as many possessions as possible. Not only will the Lions back half have to work hard, the entire team will need to work together to keep West Perth players from the ball and get the win.
Grand Final Rematch
After last year’s Grand Final clash which saw Subiaco demolish West Perth by 81 points they will be looking to once again keep West Perth from the ball as much as possible and not allow them to move the ball into their forward line with ease. Last year Subiaco were undefeated throughout the entire season which saw them making history, being the first team to do this in 72 years. Subiaco were able to secure their grand final win to get the flag with an impressive performance by all of the team.
Goal Kickers
Subiaco’s forward line has been strong in recent weeks, being able to effectively use the football in their forward half and then finishing off the hard work with their goal kicking. Last week saw 10 different players kick goals including 3 from Borchet. Subiaco’s midfielders will also work hard to move the ball into the forward 50 with good precision to hopefully get the chance with some set shots.
Other Grades
Subiaco’s Colts team will take on West Perth prior to the League match which will bounce down at 9am. After one of the best performances of the season which saw Subiaco win by 72 points last week the Colts team will be looking to once again come away with a win to maintain their recent winning streak. The Reserves team will play after the Colts with bounce down commencing at 11.30am. They will be looking to come back from last week’s disappointing 10-point loss. Meanwhile the Subiaco’s WAFLW team have a bye.
