Round 16 Preview

Thursday, July 25, 2019 - 4:05 PM

After last week’s bye and a round 14 win Subiaco will be looking to continue their winning streak as they take on the West Coast WAFL side at Leederville Oval in a 11.40pm bounce down this Saturday for a Round 16 clash.

Last time both teams met was in round three this season, which was for the first time since West Coast joined the WAFL competition which saw Subiaco win by 15 points.

Form

Subiaco have shown their ability and strength across the field throughout the season  and will be aiming to continue this for the remainder of the season. Round 14 saw Subiaco win by just eight points over a competitive Claremont. The Lions were able to maintain form and composure to take a win in a physical four quarters of footy.  With scores level at the first break Subiaco players worked hard to keep composure and maintain possession with the pressure Claremont brought to the game. Subiaco go into this week’s match three games ahead in top position on the ladder and will be looking to deliver some strong football and get a win at home.

Pressure

Subiaco will need to apply pressure across the field in this week’s match to ensure they keep West coast from the football as much as possible. After only playing West Coast once before when they were fairly new to the WAFL completion, the Lions will be expecting them to bring an improved and stronger four quarters of footy.   Strong tackling pressure across the ground and especially in their forward line will aim to limit West Coast’s performance.

100  Games

Leigh Kitchin, captain of Subiaco will celebrate his 100th game for Subiaco this week against West Coast.  The team will be looking to get a win to celebrate this milestone.

Goal Kickers

Throughout the season we have seen multiple goal kickers which has evidently led to Subiaco’s success and ability to bring home wins. Strong team performances from Subiaco’s forwards have seen the lions hit the scoreboard effectively, notable  individual performances including Borchet who has kicked 22 goals so far this season and Sokol with 17.

Opponents Form

West Coast are currently sitting 7th on the WAFL ladder and will be hungry to get a win to move up the ladder as we head towards the end of the season. Round 14 saw West Coast defeat West Perth by 69 points with strong individual and team performance across the game; with multiple AFL players listed players in their WAFL team; Subiaco will need to bring their best to keep West Coast from hitting the scoreboard.

Other Grades

The Reserves and Colts team have a bye this week and will be playing each other in an exhibition match. Meanwhile Subiaco’s WAFLW side will take on Swan Districts at Leederville Oval on Saturday after the league match with bounce down at 2.30pm.
