Round 19 Preview

Round 19 will see Subiaco take on West Perth on Saturday with bounce down at 2.15pm at Subiaco’s home ground Leederville Oval.

In round 12 this season, the Lions were able to bring home a 22- point win against West Perth at HBF Arena, Joondalup.

Form

Subiaco has been able to maintain their form throughout the season and therefore continue to sit top of the ladder, and after last weeks result against Swan Districts, were able to secure the 2019 Optus WAFL Minor Premiership. With just two matches shy of the 2019 finals series, Subiaco will be looking to get a strong start and hit the scoreboard effectively to get the win. They will be looking to keep West Perth out of their forward 50 and limit the falcon’s possessions.

Last 5 times

In Round 12 of the 2019 season Subiaco were able to effectively use the ball to come away with a 22-point win.  Previous to this, Subiaco defeated West Perth in last year’s Grand Final and have been able to come away with wins in all five of their previous five encounters.  Subiaco has not played West Perth at Leederville oval since round 6 of the 2018 WAFL Premiership Season.

GF rematch 

Last year’s Grand Final saw Subiaco and West Perth go head to head, where Subiaco was able to come away with the win in an undefeated season.  In a game that saw Subiaco play some impressive football, they were able to secure an 81-point win. No doubt West Perth will still be looking to get revenge, so the Lions will need to bring their best football this upcoming weekend.

Goal Kickers

Subiaco has been able to maintain strong form throughout the season and the forward line has been able to play some quality football and hit the scoreboard regularly. The last time both teams met, Borchet kicked four majors whilst Waters, Beverley, Delahunty and Horsley all kicked two. Ben Sokol is currently three goals behind Mason Shaw in the WAFL leading goalkicker award, with Sokol kicking 13 goals in his last two games. 

Opponents Form 

With just two games left in the 2019 Optus WAFL Premiership Season, West Perth will eager to win and maintain the fourth position on the ladder.  West Perth have been able to hit the scoreboard effectively throughout the season, allowing them to come away with eight wins to seven losses to date. After a couple of wins in the last few weeks the falcons will be hungry to get the win as we head closer to finals.

Other grades

Prior to the league game, the reserves will play with bounce down at 11:30pm. The colts team will return to Leederville oval after playing round 18 in Kalgoorlie to take on West Perth at 9amMeanwhile, Subiaco’s WAFLW team will be looking to get a win against Claremont on Sunday at Leederville Oval for a 5pm bounce down
