Round 19 Recap v West Perth
LEAGUE
With back-to-back home games at Leederville Oval over the past two rounds, Subiaco hosted West Perth in the second Grand Final rematch for 2019, in fine conditions.
The clash with last year’s Grand Finalist’s West Perth ended with a 70-point win to Subiaco, continuing the Lions winning streak coming into the final’s series, however, due to injuries Subiaco was down to one player on the interchange bench in the last quarter.
The Lions dominated from start to finish with 27 scoring shots and 59 inside 50s, as they ran out with a 19.8 (122) 7.10 (52) victory.
23-year-old Subi forward Ben Sokol leapt to the WAFL League’s leading goal scorer with another six goals and 16 disposals (11 kicks, 5 handballs) and 11 marks. Since the round 15 bye, Ben has kicked 23 goals.
Mr. Versitility Lachlan Delahunty topped Subi’s disposal count racking up 33 touches (23 kicks, 10 handballs), recorded 25 hit-outs and nine marks, while Greg Clark and captain Leigh Kitchin finished with 32 and 28 disposals respectively.
West Perth was inaccurate (41.18%) with the Falcons only managing seven goals throughout the match from 17 scoring shots, and 34 inside 50s.
Subiaco again had a broad spread of goalkickers, with nine players hitting the scoreboard with multiple to Sokol, Borchet, and Walters, with singles to Moore, Clark, Cleggett, Edwards-Baldwin, Matera, and Atkinson.
With the win, Subiaco continues to sit top of the WAFL League ladder – four wins ahead of South Fremantle. Subiaco will now host the second semi-final at Leederville Oval after securing the minor Premiership.

East Perth lost to West Coast on Friday night under lights by 24 points, only managing to score one goal in the game.

The Subiaco Development side suffered a 43 point defeat to the hands of West Perth on Saturday at Leederville Oval. The loss drops the Lions from 2ndto 4thon the WAFL ladder and a much needed win on Saturday against 5thplaced East Perth to secure a potential double chance in the finals.
The Lion’s started brilliantly kicking the first 3 goals of the of the match through Tom Breeze, Nick Martin and Jordan Faraone. Subiaco controlled the midfield battle early and got rewards for their efforts in the fast start. Unfortunately, West Perth would then continue to kick the next 5 goals of the half taking a 4 goal lead into the main change. Emerging players Liam Hickott (14 disposals) and Tristan Hobley (13 disposals) battled hard while Aaron Breman (12 disposals) started well on the wing providing run and forward entries.
The 3rdquarter saw Subiaco kick the first of the quarter before both teams traded goals and West Perth would take a 26 point lead into the final change. West Perth had the legs in the last quarter as they piled on 5 goals to 2 and finish the game stronger than the home side. Ben Reid played his role throughout the game to be Subiaco’s best performer while Hickmott, Hobley and Faraone all played well.

COLTS
Subiaco Colts pulled off a stirring come from behind win against West Perth on Saturday morning at Leederville oval. 1styear Colt Lachie Henderson nailed a 50m bomb to seal the victory late in the 4thquarter to give the home side victory.
West Perth would have the better of the two sides at the first change leading by 7 points but having the majority of the play in their half of the ground, leading the inside 50 count 13-7. Perennial ball winners Abe Clinch (9 disposals) and Captain Jacob Peletier (7 disposals) were influential while Sandon Page would kick the only goal for Subiaco.
The young Lion’s regrouped in the 2ndquarter kicking 3.2 to 1.1 taking a 6 point lead into half time. Ben Golding led the side with 7 diposals and was influential with the sides comeback while exciting forward Tyler Brockman, Harvey Bishop and Jack Borchet would all kick one goal.
West Perth gained ascendancy in the 3rdquarter kicking away to an 11 point lead at the last change. With a strong wind blowing to the northern side, the Lion’s were always confident in a comeback in the last quarter and continued to play their exciting brand of football which has excelled from the slow start to the season.
Subiaco would kick the first goal of the quarter through a strong contested mark in the goals square by Patrick Mullane after a brilliant piece of play from Brockman. West Perth would respond straight away and push the margin back out to 10 points. Exciting 16 year Old Matt Johnson would then execute from a free kick to bring the margin back to 3 points at the 16 minute mark before Henderson cooly slotted his goal with 1 minute remaining to steal a 5 point victory.
