2nd Semi-Final Match Recap
After a week off courtesy of securing the 2019 Optus WAFL Minor Premiership, Subiaco hosted South Fremantle in the second WAFL semi-final in perfect conditions at Leederville Oval, with the winner advancing to the 2019 WAFL Grand Final at Optus Stadium.
The clash with South Fremantle ended within a 34-point win to Subiaco, continuing the Lions winning streak coming leading into the WAFL Grand Final #135.
After a hotly contested first half, the Lions dominated the third quarter, finishing the games with 27 scoring shots and 54 inside 50s, as they ran out with a 14.13 (97) 10.3 (63) victory.
Back from a few weeks on the sidelines, Ben Newton came back to lead Subi’s disposal count with an impressive 28 touches (19 kicks, 9 handballs), 3 marks, 4 tackles and 8 inside 50’s. Ben also kicked 1.3 throughout the game. Max Walters and Leigh Kitchin rounded out the top three disposal getters for Subi, with 24 and 23 disposals respectively.
South Fremantle was accurate (76.92%) in front of goal, with the Bulldogs managing ten goals throughout the match from 13 scoring shots, and 32 inside 50s.
Subiaco again had a broad spread of multiple goal-kickers, with Rhys Waters leading the count with 4 goals, while Bernie Naylor Medallist Ben Sokol and Thomas Edwards-Baldwin kicked three majors each. Simon Moore, Harry Marsh, Ben Newton and Max Walters also kicked goals throughout the game.
With the win, Subiaco now will feature in their 6thconsecutive WAFL Grand Final, with only one team playing more consecutive Grand Finals, with East Fremantle playing nine-in-a-row from 1904 to 1912.

Subiaco play the winner of either South Fremantle or Claremont in the WAFL Grand Final. The two teams will clash on Sunday 15 September at Fremantle Community Bank Oval, with bouncedown at 2.40pm.
