From Colts Premiership to League Premiership?
Never in Subiaco’s history has a player won a Colts Premiership and a League Premiership in consecutive years. 19-year-old Kyle Stainsby will be looking to become the first Subiaco player to do so this weekend at Optus Stadium, if selected.
Under current league coach Beau Wardman, Kyle Stainsby was part of the team that narrowly defeated Swan Districts by two points in the 2018 WAFL Colts Grand Final. Stainsby gathered 15 disposals on the day, with three marks and six tackles in a performance that named him one of Subiaco’s best.
Starting the 2019 season in the reserves, Kyle debuted for the league side with Jakob Atkinson in Round 16 against West Coast at Leederville Oval, where Kyle amassed a total of eight tackles and 8 disposals. Since debuting in Round 16, Kyle has appeared in every league match and was notably one of Subiaco’s best in the 2nd Semi-Final against South Fremantle a fortnight ago.
Speaking to media on Wednesday afternoon, Beau Wardman talked about some of the new faces in the league side this year. “They’re [referring to Stainsby and others] are just really competitive, and that’s what we ask of all our players when they come in to play a role” Wardman said. “We want them to be really competitive in everything they do, whether its training, preparation and game day"
Will Stainsby become the first Subi player to win a colts and league premiership in consecutive years? We will find out this Sunday at the 2019 WAFL Grand Final at Optus Stadium.
