Subiaco Football Club COVID-19 update
On Sunday, 10 May the WA Government announced a four-phase roadmap will help get Western Australians back to work safely and begin the process of restarting the State’s economy. It was developed in conjunction with the National Cabinet principles and is based on the best health advice for WA.

Following the announcement by the WA Government, the WAFC announced their Return to Protocol and communicated that community football training can resume under set conditions and protocols from Monday, May 18, 2020 in Western Australia.
To ensure the safe return to training, the WAFC worked as part of the AFL National Working Group, considered the AIS Framework for Community Sport and importantly, and has aligned with the state Government to develop a series of guidelines for clubs to follow.

Stage 2 of the ‘Return to Play Roadmap’ is due to commence as of Monday, May 18 and pending approvals from the City of Vincent regarding the usage of Leederville Oval, player groups will then use Leederville Oval to train on.
The Summary of key conditions in stage 2 include:
• We have the option to resume in groups no larger than 20.
• All training is to remain non-contact
• Footballs are permitted, training equipment such as weights, tackling bags are not.
• Strict hygiene protocols need to be followed
• NO access to change rooms, gym or club rooms
• Groups must train on allocated areas of an oval, no cross over of training groups can occur.
• Social distancing rules still apply
Stage 3 of the ‘Return to Play Roadmap’ will commence up to four weeks after stage 2; roughly mid-June. Stage 3 of the roadmap includes full squad training with contact and training-to-play, meaning the season would become a possibility a few weeks after that.
In regards to the home-and-away season of the 2020 Optus WAFL competition, given the current information available, Subiaco Football Club believes early July seems like the earliest possible and most realistic start date for the competition.
The WAFC are committed to exploring all options to launch a 2020 West Australian Football League season as soon as possible, and have been and will continue to liaise with the WA Health Authorities, WA Government and the AFL to secure a starting date in the near future and on the possibility for fans to attend the WAFL this year, as part of exploring all options to get a season away.
