Subiaco Colts announce 2020 leadership team

The 2020 Subiaco Football Club leadership team for the Colts squad has been announced prior to the round one clash against Claremont at Leederville Oval.

Captain: Connor Patterson

Leadership Group:  Lachlan Vanirsen, Lachlan Henderson and Sandon Page

To appoint the Captain and leadership group, the Colts squad went through a process where every player had to choose three players they thought held the leadership qualities they thought would best lead the team in 2020, from their selection the leadership team was finalised. From there, the four players selected into the leadership team were asked to present to the coaching group on why they thought they were the best person to be named captain.

Colts Head Coach, Chayce Creedy said "to the credit of the whole leadership group they all presented extremely well but it was Connor Patterson who was chosen as captain. The coaching group thought he was best positioned to be able to lead the group in a holistic way. We emphasised football, social and mental aspects of leadership and he ticks all those boxes.

Chayce Creedy spoke highly of Connor and his appointment as captain for the 2020 season, "Connor has shown himself over a period of 3 years to be an extremely diligent and hard-working person. His ability to put in the work to continually drive self-improvement is something that stuck out to the coaches. His ability to then transfer that into driving the group and being respected within the playing group are a couple of things that help him be chosen to captain the colts this year" said Creedy.

Connor Patterson has been with the Subiaco Colts since 2018, as a then 16 yr old and had a serious shoulder injury late in 2018 that required surgery. He put in a huge amount of work to rehab and get back to playing football and finished 2019 strongly as an integral part of the Colts side. His work over the summer was profound and then his likability and influence on the whole playing group grew and grew. He knows how to balance fun and hard work and is now utilising his social skills to drive the group's standards assisted by the other leaders.

Talking about the 2020 Colts leadership team "we actually shied away from vice-captains and instead put three strong young leaders alongside Connor as a leadership group.  So Connor is lucky to have the support of Lachlan Vanirsen, Lachlan Henderson and Sandon Page" said Chayce Creedy.

"All three are integral parts of our side and have shown a history of hard work in trying to better themselves and then the group. They all provide different views and ways to get through to the group which we see as vital in having a well-rounded leadership group" added Creedy.

 "At this age group when young players are still developing themselves we think it is important to share the load and support them as much as possible to help them achieve their personal and group goals. All these players are products of our zone and have come through our development pathway and epitomise everything Subiaco is about" said Creedy.
