Match Preview v Claremont

Monday, July 13, 2020 - 10:26 AM

This Saturday, Subiaco’s 2020 Optus WAFL Premiership Season will commence, as the Lions take on Claremont at Leederville Oval with bouncedown at 2.30pm.

Keen to defend their 2019 Optus WAFL Premiership, the Lions will be hungry to get the win this week and kick off the 2020 campaign in terrific fashion.

Keep an eye on Subiaco’s social media channels and app for updates across the day if you cannot make it to the game.

Form
Subiaco started 2020 where they left off in 2019, recording emphatic victories in both practice matches against East Perth and East Fremantle. Although reduced quarters of 16 minutes and time on, Subiaco recorded 25 and 23 scoring shots in their two practice match victories respectively. The Subiaco defence also shun, as they kept East Perth and East Fremantle to seven goals combined.

Opponents Form
Claremont played East Fremantle and West Perth in their pre-season fixtures. An inaccurate sharks outfit kicked 11 points during the game and gave Claremont a 6-point victory at New Choice Homes Park in their first pre-season game, while the Tigers couldn’t get it done against West Perth, recording a 19-point loss this past weekend.

List – Claremont
Gains for 2020: Callan England (West Coast), Steven Miller (Wembley), Edward McGinty (Kimberley), Ryan Nhyuis (Fremantle), Matthew Spoors (Sorrento-Duncraig).

Losses after 2019: Jack Bradshaw (retired), Jesse Laurie (retired), Jordan Law (retired), Jalen McGee (West Coast Eagles), Jake Murphy (retired), Ryan Murphy (Perth), Ian Richardson (retired), Jacob Sideris (Swan Districts), Anthony Treacy (Drafted WCE).

Where its won
The game is going to be won in the middle, with Claremont Sandover medallists Kane Mitchell and Jye Bolton leading the charge for the Tigers. The experienced line-up of Horsley, Newton, Kitchin in the middle, with reigning Sandover Medallist used as an extra midfielder, should be enough for Subi to get it done and should provide ample opportunities for the forward line to get on the scoreboard.

Milestones

Should Jordan Lockyer be selected to play in this weekend's game, he will play his 100th WAFL Game against Claremont.

Other grades
