Simply Energy WAFL Futures Wrap-Up
This past Sunday saw the Subiaco Futures take on Swan Districts at Steel Blue Oval, to wrap up the Simply Energy WAFL Futures competition for season 2020.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic and like the rest of the WAFL, the futures competition was put on hold, but was re-scheduled to finish over the recent school holidays to the delight of the Subiaco players and coaches.
The new re-formatted season consisted of six games, with a total of 44 players from the Subiaco metro and regional zones donning the Maroon and Gold in 2020.
The Subiaco team went through undefeated through the 2020 Simply Energy WAFL Futures competition.
Subiaco Talent Manager Kristian Dicton said it was fantastic to see so many players get an opportunity at futures level for the football club and contribute to the overall success of the program. “This year we had eight players from Kalgoorlie and two player from Esperance travel to Perth to train and play games which is a credit to themselves and their families.”
Dicton added “I’d like to take this opportunity to thank all my staff who have stayed engaged with the players and maintained their focus and professionalism through these trying times. They have gone above and beyond the call of duty and led by head coach Stuart Page have provided a challenging and professional environment where the boys have thrived.”
“I’d also like to thank both Lions pride academies in Kalgoorlie and Esperance for their continued support of our metro program. Rhett Foster, Brent Gouge and Brendon Simpson the tireless work you do behind the scenes doesn’t go unnoticed as is greatly appreciated. To the GFL and EDFA junior and senior clubs thank you for supporting the Lions pride academies and the talent pathway. Without clubland none of this would be possible and I hope by more and more regional players showcasing their talents you are starting to see the results locally with the boys going from strength to strength in the local competitions” said Dicton.

The above players from Kalgoorlie played in our final game on Sunday and have all been solid contributors across the program. The club looks forward to continually working closely with our metro and regional zones to continue to provide a pathway for our talented footballers for years to come.
