Round 1 Recap v Claremont
LEAGUE
In what was the first game of the 2020 Optus WAFL Premiership home-and-away Season and Subiaco defender Jordan Lockyer's 100th WAFL game, it, unfortunately, was not the result the Lions were after in wet conditions at Leederville Oval against Claremont.
The clash with Claremont ended in a 20-point loss to Subiaco; recording their second loss since the 2017 WAFL Grand Final.
The accurate Tigers led at every break, with both clubs having 20 scoring shots and 39 inside 50's, as Claremont ran out with a 20 point victory.
Debutant Nicholas Martin scored three goals on debut with fellow debutant Wil Hickmott also on the goalkickers list for Subiaco.
Hayden Kennedy topped Subi’s disposal count racking up 23 touches (14 kicks, 9 handballs), while reigning Sandover Medallist Lachlan Delahunty finished with 22 disposals and 19 hit-outs and Ben Newton finished with 19 touches.

RESERVES
The reserves kicked off 2020 in style with a 35 point win over Claremont.
The developing Lions blooded 13 new players with a mixture of transitioning Colts from 2019 and new recruits who all had a big impact on the result.
Subiaco booted 5 first-quarter goals to help set up the victory. Claremont fought back to get within two goals at the main break but a five-goal 3rd term all but sealed the win for the Lions.
Jack Borchet provides a great focal point up forward with three goals while new recruit Jake Stergiou kicked two in a promising showing. Tom Edwards-Baldwin was outstanding through the middle and Oskar Matthews was also a strong contributor in the ruck and down forward.
The Development squad will travel to East Fremantle next week to play the sharks in a practice match to continue their good form from round one.
