Ones to Watch
Jed Kemp has enjoyed an incredibly consistent season, impacting the game offensively and defensively week-in, week-out. The Goldfields product is averaging a shade under 20 disposals, never once going below 17, while averaging almost five tackles across his nine games this season. Last weekend, the 18-year-old stood up to the pressure of finals, racking up 19 disposals, laying 10 tackles and even chipping in with a goal. Expect more of the same from Kemp in Sunday’s must-win clash.
Last weekend was the first match for the entire season that star forward Sandon Page has failed to register less than two majors. Page has been in exceptional form this year, finding plenty of the ball while booting 22 majors so far. Expect Page to return to his sparkling best this weekend against an East Fremantle team that he has good form on already this season.
Connor Patterson was exceptional in last weekend’s Finals clash with Claremont. Patterson enjoyed his best game for the season, racking up 20 disposals, taking three marks and laying an impressive six tackles. It’s clear the 18-year-old thrives under the pressure of Finals football, so look him to stand up once again and be a key player for the Lions.
Lachlan Vanirsen has been a dominant force in the Lions midfield this season, averaging over 22 disposals, six marks and four tackles per match. Vanirsen has been rewarded for his efforts with selection in the State u/18’s squad but will no doubt be keen to add a Premiership medallion to his list of accolades for the 2020 season. Vanirsen dominated last time the Lions met with East Fremantle, racking up a mammoth 27 disposals, six marks and four tackles; expect more of the same this weekend.
