Subiaco announce 2021 leadership team

The 2021 Subiaco Football Club leadership team has now been finalised with a vice-captain appointed a new-look leadership team, consisting of Leigh Kitchin (Captain), Greg Clark (Vice-Captain), Angus Litherland, Jordan Lockyer, and Ryan Borchet.

This year, there was a nomination period for all players who wished to be considered for leadership positions, prior to a players vote. Previously the Club had an open vote, however, this year the Club wanted players to consider the role, understand the expectations and nominate themselves through the match committee. 

Following a review from the last couple of years it was decided to have a smaller group of leaders this year to drive greater accountability.

Leigh Kitchin was once again voted as the captain of the Subiaco Football Club for the third consecutive year.

Wardman said that Leigh has the respect of the playing group and coaching staff, that is evident.

"At top flight he works hard to push himself and keep improving."

“He looks slight by stature but leads the group in power rankings, testament to his off-field work. He wants to see improvement, encouraging learning and clarity of expectations” said Wardman.

Speaking to Senior Coach, Beau Wardman regarding the appointment of a vice-captain in 2021 “Greg is a passionate Subiaco person, he has come through the pathway and worked hard on and off-field to demonstrate the strong behaviours expected at the club.”

“Greg is highly respected by his peers as reflected in the voting. He will be able to shoulder some greater responsibility working with Leigh Kitchin and the other leaders in the group” said Wardman.  

Ryan Borchet is the newest addition to the leadership team.

“Ryan has missed a bit of footy on-field over the last 18-months but this has enabled him to grow in other areas. He is driven to success and his work ethic backs this up.”

“He has great rapport and respect among the group and spent considerable time last year developing some of our young forwards, assisting Brent McPherson with some coaching during the week and match-day. He is passionate and demanding which comes from wanting to see improvement and results” said Wardman.
